car constantly scraping the snow on the bottom. Any potential problem?
 

As title, my car is very low (08 G35) and it is constantly scraping the snow on the car's chassis the past few weeks as I drive. Now I noticed a black plastic covering part of the bottom of the car, but I dont know about the shaft, would there be any damage to it? or will the bottom potentially rust?

any advice will be appreciated.

it's snow not concrete, just don't drive over it at 100km/h.....yes it could rust but that's not due to the snow, it's due to the salt that's put on the roads


go buy a beater car for the winter....x6 maybe?

well, you can rip off your belly pan like I did on my bro-in-law's mazda3. I've heard people ripping off lips and bumpers. Especially in the side streets where the hump in the middle is pretty high. But on my VW, it's survived that alright. With the weather warming up, it shouldn't be as much of a concern.

As for rust, nothing more than usual I would say... unless you've been scraping off rust-proofing. Just give the undercarriage a good cleaning when the snow melts.

just worry about the ice. don't worry about soft snow

With my b-pipe hanging down so low, it's quite normal for me to hear scraping with snow. but meh... as long as it's not dragging, im good.

i saw so many cars with the black plastic thing dragging on the roads, maybe that is ur worst problem.

actually, if they're salting, you'll collect it in all sorts of little nooks and crannies :) The snow is the PERFECT agent for making it stick to everything in its way. It'll build up and stay there for weeks, if not months, rusting away anything in its path...why do you think the average 10yr old car in Ontario has as much rust on it as a 30yr old car in Vancouver?

Your Gs fine, just be glad your not lowered. The sport is lower than a base and ours is fine.

Or you could have what happened to me and have your exhaust break in half from being dragged too much... Damn weld snapped past the resonator, causing the front half of the exhaust to hang and drag on the ground. :mad:

i got stuck on the middle of the snow thing on a side street where i was in the tire tracks and got pulled out by a truck and partly ripped off my bumper good thing nothing cracked and it was an easy fix but ya if your car is really low stay off side streets lesson learned

My O2 sensor was located near the cat, while being dragged in the snow, the zipties that were used to tie the wire in place broke off and my O2 sensor wire were melted onto the downpipe.
My car stalled on the middle of the street and did not crank anymore due to the wire grounding onto the downpipe = blowing EFI fuse everytime turning the key to ON.

Mine broke on my winter beater too and got snow in the pipe choking the exhaust and making my car run like shit. Had to wait for it to melt out of the pipe for the car to run right haha.

watched a civic beach itself on an intersection snowpile, and then punched it in reverse... that awful dragging/tearing sound as the undertray broke away from under the car makes me worry that i'll be next :cry:

I saw a new BMW X5 getting stuck on HASTING in burnaby. Yes it was a 4WD car but still .....

Pay attention to those HUGE FAT ASS SUMMER Performance TIRES .... even 4WD couldn't help when there's little to NO traction...

surprisingly... my lip is not damaged in any way...
well 2 tiny dinky lil rock chip .. but i can touch that up..
however, my underbody panel got torn out.. :( time to go to the junk yard and buy a new set...
