Free cable?

1. Move into house
2. Shaw does not come and disconnect cable that previous owner had.
3. TV is getting signal/channels
4. No monthly bill

Is one obligated to report it?

If the person decides to order say shaw internet, is installation done remotely? or someone comes and installs it.

If techie comes and installs will he find out about free TV?

If he finds out about the free TV, will the person get charged?

Shaw can't do nothing, except disconnect it, even if you're the perpetrator.

Not your responsibility.

Previous occupier's responsibility to arrange the cancellation of their own cable account.

However, if you have the ability to charge EXTRA on their acct, eg. Pay Per View purchases.....you can get fucked for account fraud.

shaw leaves it on for a bout a month or two for free, otherwise they have auditors going around checking for things like this. if you get free cable, they cant don anything about it, except put a cap on it.

hmm some installers dont care what u have cause they dont know the work order or what u might have previously, they just do what they are suppose to do and get out.

hahah my friend was in a similiar situation BUT throughout his whole life living there (15 years) had free cable. As well, he had up to 59 channels.

Nope, not obligated to report it.

If you order Shaw internet, most likely a tech will come to set it up the modem.

I don't think he would find out about the free TV directly... not sure though.

Person should not get charged retroactively.

But yeah, sometimes they do audits and may find that there is service to a house/apartment that shouldn't have it. They'll send a notice saying that it'll be cut off unless you set up an account or whatever...

NiceGirl 01-06-2009 10:07 PM

nope. you don't have to do anything.

shaw usually leaves it for a month and then they'll phone asking if you want to open an account. if you say no, they'll disconnect it.

in my old house, we had free cable for... 10+ years. that was when it was rogers tho. they called to ask if we wanted to open an account, we said no, and they forgot to disconnect it.
