Need some advice...

So im currenty working in a casual dining restaurant (ie earls) and would like to now finally move into fine dining. I plan to be a chef, this will be my career. School right now is in limbo (still deciding on which, wouldnt mind some advice on a school either). So what im really asking is what do i do now, to get my foot in the door? Ive begun to apply at entry level positions at certain fine dining establishments and its been pretty hit or miss.

Read up more on the industry, not exactly a cooking school but will get your feet wet
