Showering with stitches
 

So basically, I got stitches on my forehead on wednesday night/thursday morning. It has been somewhat 24-48 hours so I was wondering, if I am able to showering or wash my hair atleast?

I also got a small stitch on my arm, but I've been keep that arm up when I took a bath yesterday. Any help? I really want to wash my hair, it feels awful and it still has tons of 'dried' blood in there.

I don't think they will be the kind that dissolve with water so just be careful when you wash you hair. It will be fine. Just don't soak the area in water or allow to much time before you dry the area.

from what i remember you're not suppose to get your fresh stitches wet for at least a week. so i would suggest shower your body, then get your mom or someone to wash your hair like they do in the salon in the tub or something. it'll take a bit more effort now to get yourself clean but you don't wanna risk any infections.

I had dissolving stitches for when I had a hernia operation a few years back. The doctor told me that while it's not the best thing to get them wet, it wont do any harm. If you have a deep enough sink (or high enough faucet), you can try washing your hair using that. I've done it a few times when the shower was being used.

Well, it was just a few glass cuts from my accident and I got stitches. I remember asking the doctor if I can go home to shower, and he said yes you can. But I also searched it up and I remember reading, keep it wrapped for the first 24 - 72 hours then after that, it's ok to keep it open. I have to get the stitches taken out in a couple of days, so assuming it's not the dissolving stitches?

Yea they are the regular ones so you are safe to shower but like I said... don't soak the area for to long.

OH I just noticed that the two area with stitches is still numb. Normal?

Usually you are supposed to wrap any open areas with seran wrap. Cover the incision/dressing with seran wrap (or any other material that would do the job) and surround it with tape so that no water/shampoo can seep in.

just put some rubbing alcohol on it and put masking tape and pull it off and it will be all nice and clean

prolly shud get someone to help you with the hair washing...last thing you want is the stitches to get infected and have to get them redone

as for the arm...can just wrap in plastic or saran wrap with waterproof tape

OK. We'll I went to the doctor's yesterday to get my stitches removed and she said it doesn't seem to be ready to be removed yet, but she also mentioned it's ok for my to wash my hair and shower normally; So that the stitches can 'loosen' up a bit and something like that.
