Issues with P5N73-AM and 9800GT

ok, new setup...

E8400 on P5N73-AM, 2GB of ram, 9800GT...

when you turn it on it takes a while (maybe like 20 seconds?) to get to the POST and then says it failed to boot last time, F1 to continue Del to go to setup. thats one problem. the other is that the video card doesn't show anything, even though the bios is set to PCI-E, but the onboard works fine (i just checked there is no option in the bios to disable onboard video)

any help you guys can give me is appreciated. hoping you guys think of something i overlooked.

Ive had problems with my 9800gt.

I boot my pc and it goes into windows but the video card drivers load into power save mode and underclock my card. Its like the card isnt getting enough power, Im running it under a enermax galaxy 850wat, which is a rock stable psu.

weird

hmm i think my psu is a 400 or 450W maybe i'll try it with my 580.. might not be getting enough power.

Razor Ramon HG 01-11-2009 04:01 PM

Minimum requirements is 400W. I'd get a 500-550W PSU just to be safe.

Raid3n 01-11-2009 04:14 PM

ya, that seems pretty likely to be the culprit. i'll try it with my more powerful psu and get back to you guys

Do you currently have a separate power cable going to the 9800?

Raid3n 01-11-2009 04:35 PM

ya, i have the PCI-E power cable plugged in.

lilaznviper 01-11-2009 08:09 PM

u mite want to update the bios on the motherboard

i had a problem when i installed a 9800gtx into a buddy's computer
had a couple of problems when booting
a bios update solved the problem

Raid3n 01-11-2009 08:51 PM

already did that.
and it turns out my other psu is a 450W and doesn't have a 24pin power plug... so i gotta get one from NCIX tomorrow at lunch.... man...another 100$ gone...

Raid3n 01-12-2009 07:09 PM

ok, so new OCZ GameXStream 600W psu... no change...

although, talking to a friend of mine, we are suspicious of the mobo.

Raid3n 01-13-2009 08:06 AM

Happened to my 8800 gtx, my mobo didn't support it so I just bought a new setup for my PC instead lol. Read the video card manual is check if your mobo supports your video card.
