someone got murdered across the street from me

900 block of richards. Cops blocked off the whole street, seem to be fingerprinting the lobby door, about 15 cops out here.

Wonder what the story is.

cow20xx 01-12-2009 02:05 AM

Hmm...
i saw a few cop cars parked at the corner of richards and nelson earlier tonight, dont know if that's related....

busy day for your block tonight then.

uhh...you say that based on what?

Trust me, murders happen everywhere. I've been to beautiful upscale neighbourhoods and gritty downtown alleys where people have been murdered. The majority of murders are NOT gang or drug related and neither are they indicative of their surroundings (ie: the safety of the neighbourhood).

I've been to tons of murders where it's a domestic gone too far or they simply just dump the body somewhere and it takes the cops a few weeks to figure out that the victim wasn't even murdered anywhere close to where he was found.

Jim Chu said the complete opposite of what you said a few weeks ago. He also said there was a decrease in domestic murders.

It's not the complete opposite, you just need to pay closer attention.

He said gang-related murders are on the rise (which was just parroting what's been in the papers/what StatsCan has been saying). I said gang-related murders are the minority of the murders. We're both right.

"The number of gang-related murders in Canada is on the rise, with last year's total accounting for roughly one in five of the homicides reported to police, according to a Statistics Canada report.
Of the 594 homicides in Canada last year, 117 were gang-related, an increase of 16 over 2006." (excerpt from Oct. 24, 2008 Vancouver Province)

If one out of five murders are gang-related, then four out of five are not. Therefore, I was right when I said the MAJORITY of murders are not gang-related.

OffroadZuki is right. It really doesn't matter where you are, you are still subjected to murder. Around 2004-2005 when I was still in high school, a man was murdered about 8 houses down the street from me. Something about the middle aged couple's son getting into drugs, and apparently a man and a woman confronted the couple about the whereabouts of their money and the son. The man of the house ended up struggling with the unknown man who had a gun, then it went off and the owner was killed.

This was a neighbourhood within 10minutes of 2 elementary schools, a community centre, library and pool. You can't assume what you don't know isn't there. Even if an area looks really peaceful, there could be a dealer living in the vicinity.
