Taking care of a border collie

Hi everyone

My boyfriend and I are thinking of adopting a border collie pup sometime next year. We'll be living in a condo and I also have a 3 yr old cat. Just wondering if anyone has experience raising border collies in condos or if you can let me know on average how much exercise time you have with the dog?

Thanks in advance :)

The dog will go stir crazy if not taken out for decent walk/play time daily. I would suggest you take up hiking or perhaps think about some activities to do with your new dog ie. flyball or agility.

Berz out.

Border collies are high activity dogs. They will get bored easy. With not much yard to run in I would suggest minimum 2 1/2 to 3 hours of activity. Being they are herding dogs you will really have to work with the puppy to make sure it doesn't try to herd the cat. They are very smart dogs and will need something to do, so be prepared to do herding, agility, obedience, rally, or something with the border collie.

That said they are a wonderful breed. If you are prepared for the time and energy and keep them mentally busy they make great dogs.

If this doesn't sound like your kind of dog another suggestion would be a greyhound, or whippet. They make great appartment/condo dogs.
