Just a general question about the honors program...does it really distinguish you from other graduates seeking a job? Also where does it say that u did in fact complete the honors program because i dont think it says on the parchment you receive when you grad..like how would your employers know other than looking at ur resume..it only states the degree on the parchment..eg. Bachelors of Business Admin

Any insight would be appreciated. TIA

I asked the advisors today and they said it doesn't say..I guess it's different for SFU?

I don't know what adviser you asked, but mine says Honors.

I have never meet anyone that asked for my transcript/degree when I was applying for a job. They tend to care a lot more on my past work experience.

I've known people who have been hired from jobs where they asked for proof of graduation and they provided that with the parchment.

i know someone who not only had to prove they graduated, but also bring along their transcript to their interivew. his transcript was discussed in detail too. really it depends on what job it is. the person i'm talking about happens to be an actuary.

question- on my advising transcript, I have a Cumulative GPA, and a Cumulative UDGPA, what's the difference?

Also, anyone got a First Class Honors? Is that upon graduation, if you have a 3.5 CGPA, then you get that? Or is it a program within the Honors program, that you have to MAINTAIN the 3.5 GPA in order to get it?

Depending on what you're specializing in, some employers may look at transcripts. This applies especially if you are in Accounting, and you are trying to get in to a firm of some sort. Not all BBA grads are created equal.

CGPA is your cumulative grade point average. This is your average GPA for all undergraduate courses you have taken. The UDGPA refers to your average GPA for upper division courses only. (300 and 400 level courses). Some law schools and graduate schools may only look at your grades from upper division courses. Therefore, your UDGPA may be of importance in such applications.

First class honours is just a way of distinguishing the top students within the Honours program. You do not have to apply for it or complete extra course work. As long as you have a GPA of 3.5+ when you graduate you will be awarded a first class honours degree. However, I am unsure whether this GPA refers to the CGPA or the UDGPA. It is best if you check with the academic advisor.

It's always nice to do the honours program, it's only takes a little bit more time and makes you look smarter when you start printing business cards. (Eg. ASG111, BBA vs. ASG111, BBA (Hons.)

The 3.5 is based on CGPA.

aww fuck, that's kinda hard lol. i only want to specialize in one concentration, but taking all 5 of those courses to get the Honors would be brutal = =" aiyah my lord diu diu diu diu

i did a econ honours, and it says honours on everything.
i believe 3.5 for CGPA. i got above 3.5 for UGPA and i didn't get first class.

that might be a different case for BBAs tho.
i know that if you get 4.00+ GPA in a semester, you get onto the Dean's list, which is not THAT hard if you take only 3 courses.

You need to take a minimum of 12 credits to be considered for the Dean's list.

is that the same as the Dean's honor roll? if it is, then it's 9.

"Dean's Honor Roll

Each semester, students who have demonstrated exceptionally high academic performance are selected for the Dean's Honor Roll and recognized at the annual Dean's Awards Reception in the Spring. Forty students are selected in each of the Fall and Spring semesters, and 20 students are selected for the Summer semester. The following requirements must be met by students to be considered for the Dean's Honor Roll:

* Must be a declared Business Major, Business Honors, Joint Business Major, or Joint Business Honors
* Have successfully completed 69 credit hours, including the Honor Roll semester
* Be registered in at least 9 credit hours in the Honor Roll semester, two of which must be upper division Business courses
* Have an exceptionally high GPA in the Honor Roll semester"

Hey people that did honors or are enrolled in the honors program,

I was wondering whether on the transcript it says which date (or semester) that you have been enrolled into the Honors Program. Ie. if someone is in their 2nd year, enrolled, then come 3rd to 4th year, and realizes he may not have enough time to finish the program and quits the Honors and goes back to a regular degree, does it say when you were IN the Honors program and when you were DROPPED out? Anyone know? I want to do it now, but not sure of the circumstances so just wondering whether it will appear on my transcript saying I dropped it or something. Thanks

I took a glimpse at the outline. Doing a BBA honours is not that different from just a BBA; you just take 12 more credits of approved 400 level courses for honours. In other words, it doesn't matter if you are 2nd year, because you'll be doing the same courses as people not planning to do the honours program.

It only matters when you do your "honours courses" in your 3rd or 4th year. You need to apply after having between 75-90 credits and there is a GPA requirement for entry and continuance. I think that once you apply for honours, the program description on the transcript will say honours. But before that, nothing is gonna appear, like how your major will not show up until you have declared it.

No, the requirements for entry, continuance and graduation for the Honours Program are:
3.00 cgpa overall
3.00 udcgpa overall
3.00 gpa for all upper division BUS and BUEC courses
3.00 Business gpa
3.50 is required for a First Class Honors in all of the above for graduation
