bright anodized lip.

I've been told by several shops locally that it is not possible to 'repair' it. They can however, take of the bright anodized lip and strip off the anodizing (sp?). Is there any way of repairing it by reanodizing it? I want it to have the same bright anodized look. Thanks!

no real way around it, but if u want, get them to color match it as close to as possible. what u can do is send them 2 wheels, on the same side of the car, and have them match it as close to as possible to the other side of the car's wheels. at least that way, the 2 wheels on one side look identical.

and u cant get that done here locally either.

all done in the states, ur looking around $250-300 starting, depending on size, rim, and everything else in between. shippings another 50 bucks or so.

this is all per wheel

yes you can re anodize it. However to make it looks nice it needs to be machined and repolished. The way an anodized finish works is. If the surface being anodize is shiny the finished color will be shiny. If the surface is dull the color will come out dull.

If you have any questions just pm me i know a thing or 2 about anodizing.

+1 on the anodizing , only thing is , of it is a 2 peice wheel, you need to take it apart , I have had it done on my volks , it is worth the hassle!

just wondering also. awhile back i went to see the wheel repair place SR racing sends their stuff to and they said they couldn't replicate the clear anodizing on the wheels i had at the time... they said their finish would end up looking yellowish compared to what i had (fabulous profound vip wheel).

after researching on how to restore anodized aluminum, i have decided to just strip the layer and leave it bare polished.

anodized is great until it gets stained, which is what happened to mine. i'm leaving it uncoated just so that i can polish it myself in the future as opposed to having to strip, polish and re-anodize all over again...

what stained it?

Hakkaboy 02-23-2009 07:36 AM

not sure. bought the wheels used and it was stained.

my guess would be salt or corrosive wheel cleaner.

it's whitish and all over the lips.
