DETROIT — Chrysler surprised the crowd on the opening day of the 2009 Detroit Auto Show with the rollout of its four-passenger 200C EV, a dramatic, performance-inspired flourish to the automaker's electric-vehicle lineup. The 200C EV is a shortened version of the rear-wheel-drive Chrysler 300C.
Chrysler said the showcar features a 40-mile all-electric range with zero fuel consumption. The four-seat sedan sprints from zero to 60 mph in just 7 seconds and has a top speed "greater than 120 miles per hour," according to the automaker.
"[The Chrysler 200C EV] provides a glimpse at the possibilities for a next-generation Chrysler performance sedan," said Ralph Gilles, Chrysler vice president of design. "With the 200C EV, we were able to maximize the effectiveness of the ENVI powertrain with the stunning, wind-cheating vehicle shape, while pushing toward the future with the avant-garde interior and advanced in-vehicle connectivity."
Key details include a cabin that has been stripped of switches and levers. Chrysler said all of the vehicle functions, settings and uconnect features on the 200C EV are "managed via a panoramic multimedia touchscreen, a passenger-dedicated ‘techno-leaf' and a stowable tablet PC." The techno-leaf houses personal climate controls and an infotainment system.
The 200C EV rides on a 116.1-inch wheelbase versus a 120.0-inch wheelbase on the 2009 Chrysler 300.
Inside Line says: Chrysler strives mightily to keep performance in mind as it rolls out its EV lineup here — but it's still up in the air which of the five vehicles will see the light of day. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

what do you guys think? new hope for chrysler's future, or epic fail?

EV = Electric Vehicle = No exhaust

Plus if you look at the front of the car, you'll notice that the air dams are designed the exact same way on both ends of the car. It's purely an aesthetic thing, not a "Lexus trend."

hamhead 01-14-2009 10:19 AM

40 miles LOL

RacePace 01-14-2009 11:02 AM

^well 40 miles in a day is more than enough for a lot of people, and they haven't mentioned charge up time

Looks kinda like the new sebring.

Liquid_o2 01-14-2009 11:30 AM

I like the front a lot. Not a fan of the rear. I am interested to see if this makes it to production in the coming years.

40mi=~60-65kms... isn't that enough for city driving?

but then there are other factors... passengers, cargo load, terrain (ie. hills)... yeah wondering how long it would take to charge up, or would it be like a tesla?

thumper 01-14-2009 11:39 AM

there is a bit more info here: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=7430

there is another 700mi extended range with the onboard gas-powered generator running, but the electric motor is the primary propulsion source.

being a concept, this could be all just vaporware, which a gerbil running in an exercise wheel under the hood for all i know :lol

that's a pretty good looking car. The Americans show that they CAN make decent cars, they just chose not to.

shenmecar 01-14-2009 01:19 PM

it might be designed by some europeans....you never know.....

Harvey Specter 01-14-2009 02:19 PM

The next gen of the 300C in 2010/11 is suppose to look like this.

too_slow 01-14-2009 06:56 PM

3seriesBeeM 01-14-2009 07:24 PM

found this on youtube... don't know what happened to the audio (turn it to max and you can sort of hear something):

some more here about the interior gizmos/connectivity:

Harvey Specter 01-14-2009 08:30 PM

I don't know about a CDI engine but there is word on a 6.4l engine for the upcoming SRT models.

The_AK 01-14-2009 09:02 PM

Exterior looks really good,
Interior is a little "out there", plus it lacks the necessities like the all-sizes cup holders and ash tray.

Steering wheel looks a kinda "gay" too

XThanhX 01-18-2009 12:36 AM

overall im pretty impressed
