which of these speakers would give more bass when powered by an amp along with good clarity?

Bass? As in sub bass? Neither of them will give you any sub bass.
Mid bass they are pretty close between the two. The real question is which of the two have a better sounding tweeter and better crossover system. The answer will be subjective because at this point its going to be based on personal preference. I would recommend that you take a listen to both sets (and others) to get a good idea of what you are looking for.

There's mid bass and sub bass. You can't really get both from one speaker.

If you're looking for a fuller heavier hitting bass, you will need a subwoofer. If you want warmer fuller mid range/mid bass/highs you need a component set.

I would recommend the HSK series from hertz instead of ESK. Little more money, but much better speaker/tweeter/crossover design.

What is your budget? If you love your music and can justify $250+ I would recommend looking into Focal, Hertz speakers. They tend to have a warmer midrange.

But again, everything comes down to INSTALL also. I've seen many customers buy high end speakers and install it themselves poorly. End result is shitty sound. Make sure you find the right size speaker, make a proper spacer, and sound deaden the door. Makes a HUGE difference in sound quality.

A $300 pair of components properly installed can easily sound better than a poorly installed $1000 pair of components.

I've even heard shitty sounding $2500 speakers in a car before. You'll be surprised how some ppl "wing it in there" with zap straps and electrical tape. *shudder*

im pretty much leaning towards picking up a pair of Hertz.

this may sound stupid, but dont the speakers just screw on to the door with the pre-drilled holes for them to fit in?

Not usually. If it were that easy I would be out of a job!
Depending on the car you may need a spacer and you may need to modify the inner door panel as well as the outer door panel. One common thing people forget is the sound deadener. Sound deadener can play a large role in making the install of that speaker much better and of course reduce rattle, road noise and loss of mid-bass. Like Cman said, its all in the install!

If you bought OEM speakers then yes.

But aftermarket speakers tend to be bigger, the magnet's tend to be bigger which may need a custom spacer to be built in order to have the speaker mount and sound proper. Also, components will come with a crossover which need to be mounted and new wiring usually needs to be run.

try to listen to the ESK 165L kit and compare to the regular ESK165. I am not sure of the availablity of Hertz "L" versions in Canada, but i am sure someone here will know.

but like what CMAN says, go for the HSK if it's still within your budget.
