summer tires are suppose to have better wet grip than winter tires

Winter technically ends March 21st, so if you want to go by the argument that ICBC can screw you over, change them over the 22nd of March.

winter tires are not just for snow... they are for cold. if you put your summer tires back on and it stays cold like normal you will have tons of traction issues.

they're called WINTER tires, not snow tires. The softer winter compound works in colder temps because it dosen't harden as fast in cold. Summer tires are meant for warm weather.

keep them on until it's regularly over 5-10*

my hi-po summers (bridgestone re050's) have just a brutal ride when it gets cold... like 4'c and below. is this the result of the compound?

I have the same tires. Compounds are a lot harder than other summer tires.

I know what the tires do and i have ice/snow tires, not winter tires.

i was driving on my summers until middle of december, didn't have any traction problems.

but for it's a much better idea to keep my snows on until i know for sure it's going to stop snowing. Never thought about the damage the salt could do to my wheels so i'll just wait.

don't put it back on till april.

i wrapped a pole late feb cuz i was too eager to put my toys back on.

Um, that Pirelli graph shows that winter tires suck as soon as the temperature goes above 7C? Err..

But after I've been using them in winter times, let's say below 7c, will the summer tires perform/grip as good as before in the 1st summer season? This is my main concern because a lot of people uses these sticky RE050/RE01-R/RT615 or even A032R/A048/NT01/V70A during summer time.

I guess yeah they may last longer but they'll probably turn into hockey pucks after a winter & basically lower the performance of these fancy summer tires?

And I've been to ICBC claim centre with a few friends recently. I saw the employees taking a quick look at what kinda tires are on the vehicle & they asked what type of tires the vehicles are using. Well good that they both have these "3 seasons" with decent threads left on them. I wonder what they gonna do if u have summer tires on under cold temperature?

if you want to see how long it takes... just hit the brake when nobody is around you. Use your head, when it is cold outside.. give yourself more room to stop. Unless you hit black ice... then even winter tires might give you problem.

but seriously... are some of you driving at the limit all the time or something? We live in vancouver, most roads are straight as an arrow. If you drive at the speed limit and give yourself enough room, you will not have any problem with summer tires. (I am assuming no snow on the road)

Weather here in Vancouver changes all the times & road condition changes too! I wish I see salt trucks around salting the main road when the road turns icy at night here in Burnaby. The leave more room method may work while u're at the MOST ideal road condition(totally dry road surface & not a single patch of black ice which u can't see)and if the other drivers around u actually use their common sense.

It's getting harder & harder to drive around GVRD without getting into trouble nowadays. I see people tailgate the others, ignore yield signs & run stop signs & cut right in front of u then hard brake everyday. Winter tires do a better job on helping me to maneuver or brake and avoid accident from happening.

Some people damaged their automatic transmission by rocking their cars back and forth when they're stuck and ALL of them use 3season tires. Get on to throttle lightly(it's hard to get traction when your drive wheels are spinning like crazy) & use proper winter tires with good threads in the correct direction helps u getting out of trouble easier. That's the only way if u don't have a small shovel inside your car anyway. Make sure u apply the brakes & the wheels comes into a stop before u shift instead of rocking the gears back & forth from R to D/D to R. It's painful if u need to dig out a few thousand bucks to replace a tranny.

some moron this morning pwned himself at the corner of king ed/cambie. it was solid black ice so myself and traffic were keeping the speeds down to 40kph or less and this idiot in an old black si coupe with bodykit and low-profiles and tuner wheels was weaving in and out between us. when the light went red in the intersection he locked up and slid right thru the intersection and nailed a bunch of those orange plastic construction markers/drums and sent them flying... and this guy just kept going.

if you're here... you might want to go back and pick up your busted front lip. it's sitting by the curb for everyone to run over :rolleyes:

i just put my winters on. so much grip
