Bench bleeding master cylinder question
 

Got a question about bench bleeding a new master cylinder. Instead of putting the MC in a vise, is it ok to just mount it on the car (without connecting the brake lines) and bleed it by using the brake pedal to depress the piston, so long as the MC is level?

Can bleeding it in this manner cause any other problems assuming the MC is level?

i dont see why not, the only reason why ppl tell u to do that on the bench is cuz if u have the master cylinder on the car, and use the brake pedal to bleed it without the lines attached, ur gonna just get brake fluid all over the place.

brake fluid is corrosive.

thus doing it on a bench, at least u can soak it up with a rag, and keep it relatively clean.

On method to keep it clean on the bench or in the car is to use some old brake lines or clear poly tubing and take the fluid expelled from the output ports back to the reservoir.

The only time it gets a bit messy is when you swap those hoses for the lines in the car. A rag can catch most of what is spilled then with ease…
