I would click ads if I was interested in what they were trying to sell.

The number of times I have ever been interested in a google ad: Zero.

Who actually clicks these things?

if these ads stay up much longer i think i might develop an interest in a single black woman teaching me biblical hebrew.

I am digging the AwesomeBar. The squished forums on the right look way better that if they were stretched like before. I am just not digging the google ad inside of the first post of the page.

tiger_handheld 01-20-2009 07:25 PM

i hope the ads stay clean - so we can browse RS at work ;)

goo3 01-20-2009 07:27 PM

you guys should be making money and putting it into a rainy day fund, IMO. i don't see why the owners should be subsidizing this from their own pocket.

I'm predicting more ads might come soon. I've seen forums with second post being an ad or in between posts. If you see benefit in the ad click on it, if not move on, it's a extra milisecond of your life

I called it

Vansterdam 01-20-2009 09:14 PM

lol@ awesomebar.

my bottom and top bars are always something about meeting black single people

!SG 01-20-2009 10:20 PM

its hinting to you.

If you are bored, come find me on blacksingles.com

Look for Shaniqua! :D

What about VIP memberships? I've seen other forums were members pay a small amount and have access to VIP sections of the forum, larger avatars/custom titles and are excluded from the ad's.

All of a sudden, the left side awesomebar is taking up half of my screen when I'm on RS. Is this happening to everyone else??

I'm on a 22" widescreen

I'm on a 22" widescreen too, no issues here.

SkinnyPupp 01-20-2009 11:48 PM

The AwesomeBar is fixed at 160 pixels wide. Unless you are using a ridiculously low resolution (like 800x600 and below) it won't take up a significant amount of space at all.

There is only one more type of ad that will be coming, and after that I will work on further enhancing the RS experience.

RFlush 01-21-2009 12:22 AM

The ads are good because it can help generate income for RS. The problem I think is the lay out. I have been on other forums where they have lots of ads and it looks more subtle and less annoying as it flows with the website.

Look at Geoexpert skinny, they have more ads than RS but it's not as bad. Maybe its because the colour scale of RS and the blocks.

Did you mean GeoExpat? If so, that's exactly how I do not want RS to look! People who think there are a lot of ads here should check that place out and be happy with how things are here ;)

Oh yes, sorry Geoexpat. Hmm I guess to each their own. I personally think the ad placement on Geoexpat is more smooth compared to RS, albiet they have a lot more. And I have actually clicked a few of their ads as it really appealed to me. Not saying testing my IQ against Stephen Harper is not interesting!

Their inside column (where the content is) is like 500 pixels wide. When I took 160 pixels away from the thread display (leaving an infinite amount of pixels wide, with a minimum of about 900), everyone was ready to shoot me.

If that is how everyone wants RS to be... well more money for RS I guess :)

hk20000 01-21-2009 09:34 AM

ROFL Lavalife ad: Should I pick her up at 8 or 9?

you fucking pedobear! At least 16?

ROFLCOPTER.

It's happening to me too. I am using a 20" widescreen right now and my resolution is cranked up as usual.

The worst part is that you have to scroll to the right everytime you load a page so you can see it lol

!SG 01-21-2009 10:38 AM

must be firefox

the awesome bar is in the middle of the fucking page.

edit: you're right. It works fine for explorer. Too bad explorer is gay lol

!SG 01-21-2009 10:50 AM

yeah, i dont like using explorer either but most sites are built around it.

i use chrome and safari from time to time...

KO7 01-21-2009 10:53 AM

Firefox user here with 24" widescreen and 1920 resolution.

Same as above, epic fail with the page being pushed off-screen to the right.

bossxx 01-21-2009 10:53 AM

So Chrome works? I had it before, maybe I will give it another shot.

RS was normal yesterday tho.. not sure what you guys tweaked but the awesome bar was aligned nicely on the left.
