China: If it wasn't for reverse engineering, they'd still be stuck in the stone age!

Congratulations. They managed to improve on a model that's 25 years old.

Whoop-dee-freakin'-doo.

Oh, and here's a tidbit of information:
Quote:
There are at least two Chinese automobile manufacturers building HMMWV copies, possibly with the assistance of General Motors. Both HMMWV copies rely heavily on imported U.S.-made parts including chassis, gear box, and diesel engine. It appears that at least one company, Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DFM), has the full consent and cooperation of the General Motors Corporation.

I think the funniest part of it is
Quote:
With 75 patents, the 1.5-ton high mobility vehicle met all military requirements, said Huang.
I hope every country in the world copies it and their patents.

dudes the Japanese started out the same way decades ago. Reverse engineer AND improve upon the original design.

It's a big country and capitalism/opportunist mentality is still fresh, give them some time.

How do they get away with not breaking patent laws? The thing clearly looks the same as a Hummer. Is it associated with GM?

It's like Ford coming out with a Porsche-looking car, and calling it a Ford. Doesn't make sense.
