Exhaust Shop Recommendation

http://www.detali.ru/cat/MB/B49030000547.0830.gif

In the picture, it shows the exhaust of my car which #26 is the muffler chamber. My engine's a V8 and I'm looking to replace the muffler with a Y-pipe. All I need is remove the clamps and clamp on a new Y-pipe on one end and have a short pipe bended at an angle to connect to the rear pipe.

I'll bring my own Y-pipe but need a slight bend pipe to connect them. Any shop recommendation and ball park price? List some decent shops that still exist nowadays for me please.... I'm a old timer

Bad experience in my past 10 years...

1) I used to deal with kinetic for full custom catback before, but it runs me about $500 when I bring my own Remus exhaust. (decent deal)

2) I dealt with Carline in Richmond before and they are full of BS and hella expensive.

3) Some Midas muffler shop asked for $180 for a cut and weld job. (ripoff)

4) Speedy asked for $140 for the same cut and weld job. (decent)

5) Short stop asked for $80 for the same cut and weld job. ( cheap but welding job sucks - broken hanger in a month)

Try evolution.

Hoegler's is great. Just had them do work on 2 different ocassions recently.

They'll either charge you half time or maybe even nothing. Half time is $30.

honestly, i would look at giving evolution a try. just because ive seen first hand the pipes and welding done to them. It seems like from ur past expierences, thats something ur concerned with.

How is the welding and attention to details?
I want my exhaust "reversible" back to stock.

Where's Evolution? different from revolution right?

!SG 01-19-2009 10:56 PM

evolution is out in maple ridge. They are a mod shop, but pride themselves on the fabrications they do. I personaly was impressed with the welding of the pipes, simply cuz my dad use to be a welder himself, so i like seeing shit like that. I wish i could weld like that.

I think ryan's got evolution up on his signature in his post in this thread...

Negative.
Shop rate was not cheap, $50 for replacing an exhaust gasket which requires removing two nuts and bolts and slap on a gasket which took only 15 mins.
The guy did not want to grab the right tool and blame my heat shield is in the way, he grab a torch and melt off my bolts, and left the head shield inside my trunk after the work is done.

They also welded a flange for my cat, the guy left a hole on the weld.
I drove back to the shop 15 mins after i got home and found that out, the guy was not happy to see me back.
He did fill up the hole on the weld for me, however, the weld did not seal the flange properly, it was still leaking like fuck.
I went back another day, he refuse to fix it or reweld the flange for me.
As he said, "i dont feel any air coming out. Why being so picky? Just go home, I dont want to see this car anymore"

It was not a good experience by the first time, but I've gave them another chance after a year. Totally garbage. Both the white owner and the black dude are fucking tools.

BEEB 01-21-2009 08:46 PM

midas and speedy are franchises, hoeglers is not

Cman333 01-21-2009 10:04 PM

I've gotten some work done at Hoeglers before.

NOT CHEAP at all, work is decent the few times I have stuff done.

I recommended a friend of mine to get his CLK55 custom pipes done there and it didn't work out so well. Tips were angled differently, welds looked mediocre. Looked kind of ghetto actually.

Hoeglars specializes in custom piping. If I needed to replace a factory exhuast on a normal econo car I would MAYBE try Midas/Speedy.

If you need custom extensions, or flanges, or straight up new everything custom made then I would suggest Hoeglars. They helped me fabricate an 6" extension for an exhuast and it costed like $450 with install. Most of the stuff was bolt on exhuast the custom extension.
