Which is the best boot manager?

I've added a new sata drive and want to build it up with software, but in the meantime, want to be able to boot my old drive and use it. When the new sata drive is up and running, I will get rid of the old drive. Right now I have both in there, but the old drive is the active one. Prior to windows booting up, it does ask me with windowsxp installation i want to run so I can pick either but the new install is far slower than the old drive. I think this is because it is not the active drive. What do you think?
