Hyundai luxury Equus sedan to be priced at $96,000

The all-new Hyundai Equus sedan, which is soon going to make its official Korean debut, will not only be the most technologically advanced Korean car, but also the one wearing the highest price tag ever.

We have been informed that the top of the range Equus limousine, powered by 5.0L V8 and all the goodies will cost Won 130,000,000 or $96,000 on the South Korean market.

The all-new Hyundai Equus sedan will initially be available in two powertrain configurations: 3,8L Lambda V6 and 4.6L Tau V8 engines. Some six months later, in the second half of the year, Hyundai plans to equip the Equus with even more potent 420+ horsepower, 5.0L V8 powrplant capable of powering the car to 100 km/h (62-mph) from a standstill in less than 6 seconds.

The already gigantic Hyundai limousine (current model) will also grow in size. The 2010 Hyundai Equus sedan stands at 5160mm of length, 1900mm of width, 1495 of heighth and features a 3045mm long wheelbase.

Among the new features on the 2010 Hyundai Equus luxury sedan are Pre-Safe seatbelts, LED technology in the headlights and other innovations such as Lane Departure Warning System and Vehicle Stability Management II.

At this point, there are no plans to export this car to the US and European markets.

UPDATE: First images of the undisguised Hyundai Equus -VI surfaced to the web today!

Rear end looks unusually long, so much so it makes the side profile look awkward.

Hyundai wowed the auto world with Genesis in luxury segment, as Toyota did with the LS400 in the 90's.
Although I agree that jumping from a 40k segment into a 100k segment within a year is a pretty brave leap, specially in today's economy

its probably gonna fail like the vw phaeton too.

phaeton didn't really fail. It simply didn't have the market for it in NA, they still sell phaeton in Asia, not sure about Europe

I'm seeing quite a few Genesis on the road. I think they'r quite decent. Definitely not a head turner, but it doesnt look half bad.

NO THANKS

hyundais are the worst cars ever

Rear end looks so long because unlike American cars, this one will be able to fit 4 dead bodies in the trunk.

I think it's not gonna do well... it's just bad timing to put out a car like this. People who can still afford a $100k car won't be spending it on a Hyundai...

Culture_Vulture 01-22-2009 06:20 PM

not digging it,
no thanks

only fail in canada/us cause were all so cheap

that low and long rear overhang will make ANY uphill impossible to negotiate without scraping the rear bumper, especially with a couple bags in the trunk/people in the back seat.

People in the market for ~$100K car care a lot about brand image.

The phaeton was a good car, just didn't have the brand image to justify the price. And it was cheap for what you got. You could get W12 AWD Power for V8 german sedan price.

Seeing as VW > Hyundai for brand image AND with today's recession, this will be a massive failure, much faster than the phaeton.

If Hyundai has half a brain, they'll cancel before launch.

great point about the economy...I was just thinking that the pool of people who could justify spending 100k on a sedan just shrunk by a HUGE portion the last few months...real money for the next little while is in affordable, fuel-efficient cars...

RRxtar 01-22-2009 09:39 PM

if anyone read the article beyond the pricetag, it sounds like its going to soley be available in the korean market. so chances are, it will sell decently. arent koreans pretty proud of their own products and tent to stick to them?
