VPN hardware recommendation??
 

Right now, I want to connect my 3 offices together, 1 in hk and 2 in china. I'm looking for a setup that can forward my entire HK network to the china offices, as in both my china office will have to use HK's internet connection as a gateway. this way I won't be blocked by the censorship in china.

I've already setup a PPTP for individual VPN connection and this allow me to use the HK WAN as gateway allowing me to access every website in the world, but I would like to have the office setup so the entire network is connected 24/7, for the RV42 VPN router that i use to connect them together does not have the function to allow me to use the HK WAN as gateway to the internet.

The China network currently connects to the internet by the China WAN but the VPN only acts as the LAN between China and HK.

As for internet speed, I've read that some people that had it done could get an average of 7Mbps throughput within the VPN. which is plenty fast for an internet connection.

the lines i'll be using are the following
HK: PCCW 100Mb Fiber, 100Mb up/down stream
China: China Telecom 100Mb direct CAT5e to office.

So are you saying you have a Linksys RV042 as your VPN router in HK? What are you using at the China offices?

Wouldn't that just be a matter of setting the proper routes? As in for each China office, set it so that the default route uses the HK Linksys RV042 as the gateway?

i have 2 RV042 connecting directly right now...
i'm not sure how I can set it to use the HK RV042 as gateway, but I don't think the RV042 could give me a high VPN throughput as commercial grade equipment either. i'm not too familiar with those cisco stuff.... the guy that set the thing up for me said that the RV042 is not capable of gateway forwarding for a fixed VPN network, but only works as PPTP. I'm also not too familiar with DD-WRT systems.

another problem i currently have right now is that the VPN is currently just setup with the 2nd office. The line there is a dedicated 10Mb with dynamic IP and it disconnects a lot.

I've read a few things on HKEPC forum and they have been vaguely talking about how to get things setup, but that forum doesn't allow registration anymore so I couldn't ask them directly... I wanna see if ppl on RS have any expertise on VPN since quite a few of u are network admin here.

My primary objective is basically using it to gain unrestricted access to the outside world in china and secondary would be having the offices connected. Having a 100Mb line in china is pretty useless when accessing anything outside the country would be as slow as dial up.

Hmm, yeah... did a little bit of quick research, and it looks like the RV042 won't route gateways on other end of VPN.

So... yeah, you can upgrade to maybe Cisco ASA 5505 units or I think Netscreen 5GTs would do the job too... as I'm sure a lot of other business grade routers would.
