Anyone have issues with SD card reader and Vista?

I have a nGear internal card reader. It's plugged in and the usb part on the reader works, but the SD slot doesn't seem to work.

So I spent a couple hours reading through forums, seems like it's a known Vista issue with SD cards 1 gig and bigger.

I found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939772
and tried to install it, but it says I'm already up to date.

Does anyone have a working SD card reader on their comp while running Vista 64?

Thanks

i have a i think either 8GB or 16GB SD card, it works fine from in a card reader or camera pluged into computer, and i'm on vista 64.

Yeah mine only works when plugged into the camera.

My internal one doesn't work.

The whole point of the card reader was so I didn't have to pull out a USB cable everytime to upload. Doh.

Thanks for your input. Are you using an external or internal card reader? Which brand?

does the internal card reader need any drivers? i know my generic internal card reader needed to install drivers in order for it to work in XP.

Apparently it doesn't. It didn't come with a disc, the nGear website has nothing on it.

it could be ur card reader is usb 1.1? i used to have this old ass usb card reader and it wouldnt read my 8GB SDHC cards, then my friend bought me a cheap ass but nice looking car reader from hk that is for sure USB 2.0 and it can read my SDHC cards no problem. oh ya mine is external, i dont like the internal ones.

Pretty sure its USB 2.0
I didn't buy that long ago. Maybe within a year.

Your problem could be you have an SD reader but your card is SDHC. They are not the same (tho they look the same)

True story. Nothing to do with USB 1.1/2.0, but everything to do with whether the reader supports SDHC. Original SD spec only allowed up to 2GB, thus *ALL* cards >2GB are SDHC by definition. Just because it's a "new" reader doesn't mean anything - look at a-power.com, only a few of the SD-capable readers they list support SDHC.

icic well it makes sense, and i thought sd specs were all the same.

They are. SDHC is a different spec... hence you need to make sure your card reader supports it :)
