what's up with this RAM? So i went to buy some RAM (Kingston KVR800D2N5/2G) today for my mom's computer and when I got home i noticed that the piece of ram is physically half the size of normal RAM (half the height) but still 240 pin. is this normal? i havent been in the computer upgrading loop for about 8 years.. am i missing something? Thanks. |
As far as I know, they're both DDR2, and the new Kingston should work fine. |
as long as they're both DDR2, it should be fine as long as ur not running dual channel mode. |
|
those are the newer batch of DDR2, they reduce the size so that it will fit in mini-ITX cases |

It works/performs the same as the older batches and running Dual channel should be fine with them. |

in other words, the RAM does not have big notches that hold the RAM down in the middle but on top. |
I think your question has been answered. Is there something that you are still wondering about? By now you must have discovered that it works fine. |
Well, that's pretty interesting... I mean, I deal with hardware quite a bit myself and didn't know they started making half-height memory... but at the same time, I don't know why you would be alarmed about it. I guess they finally figured they can make the module smaller. They've done the same for other parts like half-height single-platter hard drives... |
