Scammer on Craigslist

I'm not sure where I can post this

but I was contacted by a scammer on Craigslist because I have my car listed there.
the scammer's email is bruce.owen40@googlemail.com

right now, i'm just stringing the guy along

Does anyone know how I can forward this to the authorities?

KiDEclipse 01-28-2009 04:52 PM

how is he trying to scam you?

Presto 01-28-2009 04:55 PM

It's probably someone from Africa.

i know i want ot know how he is scamming you

Konvict 01-28-2009 05:25 PM

copy and paste emails into thread :)

Leopold Stotch 01-28-2009 05:26 PM

probably the usual

Please give me your name and address and i'll send you a certified cheque/money order for your asking price + $2000 if you can ship it to me.

put in your post

Please email me with a phone number or i won't be replying

works quite well.

E-40six 01-28-2009 05:30 PM

reasons why he is a scammer

1.) Google the name, it pops up at BC gbody, there is a thread about the same guy
2.) Makes offer for the car without seeing pictures
3.) Only wants to pay with cheque
4.) Has an agent that will pick up the car/ship it to him
5.) says gift is an anniversary present for wife/ can not see car because he is on business trip
6.) I have a relative selling his car on craigslist. Same guy messages him and he gets exactly the same response that I get. difference is, his is a $500 dollar car, and i have mine listed at $14500

Timpo 01-28-2009 05:45 PM

I don't understand, how is this going to benefit the scammer?

can he steal your car by sending you an invalid check? I don't think so, 99% of people would wait until it clears.

post the chat!

Nvasion 01-28-2009 07:17 PM

but he will scam that 1%

InvisibleSoul 01-28-2009 10:05 PM

There's no point. Just ignore him and move on with your life. There are eleventy billion scammers on Craigslist.

lol that was clever haha

AzNightmare 01-29-2009 02:13 AM

Well, there's nothing wrong with stringing him along... I would do the same too.

JordanLee 01-29-2009 02:24 AM

Take his cheque and just hold onto it haha. Frame it too and send him a picture of you holding it and threaten to call in the authorities. In the future maybe just post your cell number and dont leave your email. Forces interested buyers to call you up front. Reduces alot of flakers, scammers, and filters out the tire kickers from the actual buyers.

^ very good point.

I have posted a handful of things on CL and have received 3 or 4 emails with the exact same thing. Generally what I do is string them a long and try and get their hopes up lol

cdizzle_996 01-29-2009 07:53 AM

Move on, old news. THis has been going on for years. Just delete the email.

Yeah, he's not saying it's breaking news.

He's trying to DO something about these douchebags and if we all thought like you, it will KEEP going on for years.

(sorry OP, I don't know who to contact for this kind of thing, maybe non-emergency police?)

Leopold Stotch 01-29-2009 02:55 PM

I just thought of something

have you tried contacting Craigslist? they have a spam centre or w/e i think.

try it

racerman88 01-29-2009 05:33 PM

every time I post on craigslist, I get at least 2-3 scammer emails. At least you recognize them.
