SFU BUS 207 or ECON 301?

I don't have time to handle 5 courses at this time, so I'm dropping BUS 207 with Matadeen.

I am not keen on micro but pretty good with macro, hate derivatives and calculus and all that bullshit and just hate 207 content altogether.

I have heard stories about ECON 301 can substitute BUS 207. How is it compared to 207? Easier or better?

If i'm not a calculus person, which course is better?
Opinions? Inputs? all much pretty appreciated

All I can say is...I got raped in 207.

Marlly 01-30-2009 12:56 AM

^ I am too, but I'm going to pass on taking this course for this semester cause I know I'm not ready for such a raping. You think this raping can be prevented?

Alphamale 01-30-2009 12:59 AM

No. LOL. I thought after getting raped on the MT, I could prepare myself for the Final...nope. Matadeen is a smart guy. If you're smart, you can handle the course no problem, sometimes even as hard as you try (like I did), you'll still get raped.

Edit: I thought about taking the course again...but I honestly don't think I'll do any better, or perhaps worse.

^ I'm guessing you are algebraically challenged like i am? Well, not challenged, but not gifted as others where they just see and can do all the stuff in one go without looking back.

Alphamale 01-30-2009 01:34 AM

Sorta. I can tell you, I understood everything, or 95% of everything for the Final...but I still got raped. I dunno why. I'd rather not think about it and just accept that I did half decent, lol.

Take 3/4 of BUS 207, and imagine going into more depth and taking even more time then 207 as a whole to go through it and you have ECON 301.

You're not really avoiding much. In fact, you're probably skipping the funniest part, game theory, which isn't in 301.

I think the main advantage you will have is that 301 is the 300 level course and the curve is skewed to the right so the average mark will represent a B-/B instead of C+/B-. At the same time, you need to meet the requirements to actually take 301, stuff like being in the department, having met the minimum GA requirements and credit requirements if not, etc.

I took 301, and I would have to say it is a bit easier. It really depends on the prof, if you're going to take 301, take it with Phil Curry. He's probably the clearest out of all the profs.

I took the course with G. Barkin and she had fair midterms and a crazy final. A- after scale.

Take 207 and get a tutor or make friends with someone who is really smart. Matadeen is hilarious!

301 covers half as much as 207, but goes into more depth(not much thou)
i've taken both..it really comes down to the teachers

for 207 u learn everything, from perfect competition to game theory(very little)
for 301 u only learn up to monopoly

i did say 301 just b/c u dont abosrb as much and u r taking with econ students(not as competitive as business students)
