Just look at what folks are running across the country r-compound wise, it isn't always the most expensive, and it always isn't a big name brand (Kumho). So I don't agree with this at all.
Check with various track clubs. Guys run all sorts of different tires, even street tires, and you'll get a good assessment of wear, grip, predictability, and even rain use. High $$$ doesn't always equal better. I brought up the Federals because they are my street tire but I ran them at Mission in a downpour (surprised they didn't cancel the day) - RWD, no traction control, no ABS , and they performed nicely. Sure they slid but it was very predictable with lots of room at the limit and easy to catch. |
