Huh? Guess you haven't tried too many of the tires out there. Not saying that extra $$$ won't get you a better tire, but it's not that cut and dry. Just look at what folks are running across the country r-compound wise, it isn't always the most expensive, and it always isn't a big name brand (Kumho). So I don't agree with this at all.

Check with various track clubs. Guys run all sorts of different tires, even street tires, and you'll get a good assessment of wear, grip, predictability, and even rain use. High $$$ doesn't always equal better. I brought up the Federals because they are my street tire but I ran them at Mission in a downpour (surprised they didn't cancel the day) - RWD, no traction control, no ABS , and they performed nicely. Sure they slid but it was very predictable with lots of room at the limit and easy to catch.

I know a place that stocks 225/40/18 for $74.00 each USD and offers super low shipping prices to WA. They raised prices for my Corolla GTS' size to a whopping $51.00 each USD :)

Where would this be? thanks

keke that' where i got mine.
i love them, predictable. sidewall is stiff. good wet grip. good dry grip. very smoky.
and they're cheap.
then again these are my first performance tires. so i have nothing to compare them to. but i don't think ill be switching any time soon.

they're top 3 drift tire in japan if that matters :awesom:

I had to comment on this post. I think predictability is probably one of my most desired traits in a tire. Driving a Pick Up truck you can swing the back end around and know exactly what its going to do. However with the sticky tires on my Fiero, it has ultimate grip, until it doesn't and when it lets go, its like a frickin sling shot, the weight of the engine, will spin you around faster than all get out. I guess thats why you don't see many mid engine drift cars.

I'd take predictable over ultimate grip just about any day.

yea predictability > awesome grip

ie, SRT10, when the grip runs out you're going way to fucking fast. you're screwed.

Ok, you guys convinced me. I am going to order the Federals. How much duty and postage did you guys have to pay?

I've also had the Kumho SPT and those were awesome.

no personal experience but a lot of people suggested to me General exclaim UHP...

I've owned a pair of the exclaims on a Skyline and they were quite good. I had 235/45 17's and I liked them a LOT more than the Falken POS 512's. Traction especially in the wet was much better.
