Canada Way - Dangerous lane markings? Why aren't there more accidents here? Has anyone noticed eastbound Canada Way just before Gilmore Ave in burnaby, there's a section of the road where the lane marking (due to construction) is MISLEADING and basically causes 2 lanes to merge into one?? See picture here http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/9320/15224416lj2.jpg See how the lane marking which separates the 2 lanes basically lead right into the median? If you're in the left lane sure you can drive normally because you can use the median as a guide. But what about people driving in the right lane? I'm sure a lot of people use the lane markings as a guide (that's why they're there!) but cmon! in this situation why aren't there a lot of accidents there? It's so dangerous! You'd have to basically KNOW the lane marking is WRONG here and keep to the right otherwise, you're gonna end up in the same space as the left lane car and cause an accident..... seriously it's been like that for some time I believe, why can't they repaint the damn lines? Does anyone else not think it's a hazard? The lanes reappear further down and separates the two lanes properly but still, at that particular stretch of maybe 50 feet it's incredibly dangerous....why am I not hearing about accidents on this street? Particularly during periods when there are lots of cars? People who don't normally take Canada Way may find themselves in an accident... |
Highway 1 Westbound, after Gaglardi where they recently narrowed the shoulders (don't understand why), is also pretty misleading. They just painted the old lines black... |
That is a very dangerous section, i drive that section almost everyday to goto work. I prepare for it, everytime by not being next to any drivers. So many time the drivers in the right hand lane has cross into the left lane. I totally agree with you, it is very dangerous. Even if your in the left lane, and not paying total attention, your gonna smack right into the median |
yup i noticed that too, very dangerous |
Yea... I've noticed that too I think they covered the old lane markings with black paint before, but somehow it got washed away (cuz of the road salt, may be?) |
That giant cock travelling down the road looks dangerous too. |
lol excuse my awesome drawing But it's been like that for a long time you'd think the City would do something about it..(wait it's still like that NOW right, they haven't fixed it yet? Haven't driven there lately) I'm just surprised it can be left like that for so long and I don't seem to notice any accidents there, it seems like everyone *knows* what to do. Especially during times of heavy traffic that's really dangerous to have a misleading lane marking like that oh well I just filed a comlaint at http://vancouver.ca/ENGSVCS/transpor...ic/contact.htm not sure if it's the best place to do it but I've had success in the past. Better safe than sorry |
I agree it is a hazard. Although it is Burnaby, so this type of crap is to be expected. |
funny because i recently drove through that and was confused for a few seconds also.... and thought about how crazy dangerous that part was. during heavy traffic it should be fine as people jsut follow the cars in front. the dangerous part is the person in a hurry that is just following the lanes |
oh yah, i almost crack to right lanes or cars |
yup..i drive by there sometimes to bcit after picking up some subway, some dangerous shit going on there. several times, even though i know its coming, i still get confused |
Is that the part near the new big Casino? I almost driven into that median once but caught it at the last second. The island median is not even painted or marked so it looks like part of the road. Now I know it's there and pay special attention to it when I drive by. If someone was driving fast down that hill and did hit that island, the car could fly into on coming cars. |
drove by there yesterday, its seriously a hazard. |
I almost ran my car into the median once because my lane just suddenly ends and my car's going straight towards the median |
Don't they also have this exact same problem in the zig zag part of Willingdon heading southbound between Lougheed Highway and Canada Way? What really pisses me off is that on King George Highway in Surrey near Central City, when you head southbound its four lanes wide, but most of the street paint has worn away, so I have no idea where the frak my lane is. |
I know exactly what you are talking about. I was working by the casino for a week a month ago and it totally dumbfounded me how terrible that piece of road is. It truly is a danger. |
I'm just amazed that this hazard still hasn't been addressed by the city |
still danger to us city workers should fix asap |
