rant: David Beckham

the LA Galaxy should just let him go...let him be happy and stay in Italy..he is playing soo much better over there(2 goals in 5 matches). The galaxy can only offer becks money..and in return becks needed to be the ambassador to the game in the US. sadly, people just see him as some international hottie and nothing else. The mindset of the american people towards david beckham hasnt changed since he arrived, yea, he sells tickets to those MLS games...but thats about it. It is true, the MLS needs becks to grow. but beckham is starting to look like he is playing like he was close to his ManU days..let this guy lead the english once more, he can still play...

I would like to see the MLS succeed, but i dont believe putting out a gong show is the answer

He signed a contract for 5 years. LA Galaxy can do whatever they want. If I were them I'd keep him since he probably earns them some nice revenue in terms of jerseys getting sold. But they could work out a deal where he can stay in Milan for the remainder of their season and join the Galaxy in 2010.

WOW it's weird hes doing better over there when hes actually on a good team with some of the best players in the world rather then being on a crappy team like the Galaxy:rolleyes:

mls needs better marketing

Hondaracer 02-07-2009 06:22 PM

the MLS pretty much got all they can out of him at this point, and if he doesnt want to be there why bring him back

soccer ftl

Tim Budong 02-07-2009 06:38 PM

it is true that he brings in lots of money for the MLS, but really now, the hypetrain is over for this guy..its back to playing good soccer, with or without becks

The MLS clearly doesnt want him gone, but how many of you feel that becks cash cow is over for the MLS.

LA is just waiting for AC to raise the offer, they know how valuable he is to AC (2 goals and 2 assists in 5 games is pretty good). Beckham is not worth keeping in LA, he can't carry a crappy team all by himself as everyone saw in his first season with Galaxy. How many tickets/jerseys he can sell for them anyways?who wants to go watch a superstar in a team who is at the bottom of the league?

I honestly think he will be going to Milan, LA is just waiting for a better offer. One of the main reasons he went to LA anyways is just so he and his wife can live in Hollywood, closer to stars. Promoting soccer in the US all by himself my ass :haha: Americans will be always prefer baseball, hockey and football....

I wish him all the best tho. I agree he can lead England again, it's a shame a country with one of the best leagues and star studded team fails so much internationally. Their next friendly vs Spain should be a good match to watch.

Beckham definately helped the MLS. I'm sure they will be able to lure some more star players into the US in the future.

The skill level in the MLS is very underrated. Just look at donovan. He's doing really well in europe.

Are you kidding? While there may be a few players in the MLS that can play at high level leagues in Europe, I can name you at least 15 leagues that are better then the MLS.

I love how Beckham said the MLS needs 10 years to mature a few days ago but when he signed with LA he said the MLS is the next big thing. I can't really say he's in it for the money because he was making a great living playing for LA or that he's two faced because he was never happy playing in the MLS and I think he regrets signing with LA.

Imo I think the best thing he's done is rejoin a big EU club and prove that he's still a good player which hopefully will lead him to getting a shot to play for England in the world cup which he wants to do so badly. As far as the MLS, I think it's going be tough to keep it running. I remember reading about a few leagues in Europe who were thinking about playing league games in the US which I think would basically end MLS as we know it.

AzNightmare 02-08-2009 12:46 AM

Let's face it, North America doesn't really care about soccer as much as the Euros.

It's like saying, there's a bunch of college football leagues probably better or on par with CFL.

Yeah maybe during his first season when everyone got hyped and what not he helped a bit, but I honestly was skeptical he was going to make Americans be a lot more interested in the MLS. The most he did was make them interested in the LA Galaxy.

About luring players, yeah many star players have come to MLS, but mainly to retire like Freddy Ljunberg, and Henry have said he wants to retire playing for New York. Also I think Edgar Davids said he might be interested. Playing pro soccer with Oakley like goggles and dreadlock hair = pimp

And Donovan doesn't seem to be doing that great in Europe, being loaned back and forth between MLS and Bundesliga. The only American player doing well in Europe I would say it's Tim Howard

what was this thread bout again

Tim Budong 02-08-2009 02:05 AM

bwaahah
regardless..the way becks been playin the past 5 matches are probably the best he's played since he won with realmadrid...and probably better than that.

Tim Howard plays in a position where not many can excel as quick as he has..so cant really compare him with Donovan
