Paranoia: Reading RFID drivers licenses and passports remotely

I thought this was very relevant as bc is rolling out RFID drivers licenses now. New credit cards also have RFID.

good thing we are in canada, so even if the Gov't has a tap on us 24/7, they are probably too lazy to do anything nasty to us.

If you go to the States, now thats a different matter.

Being able to read it isn't a big deal. It's not like the information is confidential...

also RFID cheaps only have like an ability to be read from a foot or so, other then that its not like they can scan a room full of credit cards etc.

So you can get the RFID. You still have no other info that could turn that into something. Getting an RFID from a credit/debit card doesn't get you the card info.

Like what people said above... All you get is a number. The database that each agency/company that correlates the id to the personal info is what is crucial.

It's no different than your key fob for condos or keycard ofr your company security access points. the RFId is just a number... usually (and hopefully) unrelated to any other identity info... I don't know about the kill code and lock code though. Never heard of that.

it isn't about getting the number. The problem is that they can track you. Go to downtown to do some shopping. At the end of the day, they know all the stores you have been to, etc. So kind of like putting gps in cars.

They can already do that with normal credit cards or even debit cards. No real difference there aside from convenience.

you are assuming the person actually use their cc to make a purchase. I am talking about random rfid readers to track people just walking around.
