Problems texting to another country My friend sent me a text message from Vietnam with a Vietnam number. I replied but I got no response. I tried to text again a few days later but got no response. I am on Fido if that helps. I did a google search and I found that some countries will block international text messages coming into their country. Anyone else have a similar experience? |
Which provider is your friend on? And also, can you post how you are sending the SMS? For example +16047778888 (just an example.) Type it here or PM me exactly how you're texting. You can block out the number for privacy i.e. +44983xxxxxxx. That way we'll know whether you're replying correctly or not. You also have to ensure that you have the correct phone number because some countries' SS7 network is so crappy, information is lost along the way and you don't get a complete number that shows up in your SMS message. Some countries do not have agreements to accept incoming SMS messages from either a country and/or a provider. Fido/Rogers uses Verisign Metcalfe SMS and it covers I'd say 98.5% of the world's mobile network carriers. Don't ask me how I know this. I work for no providers. :D |
I text to VN occasionally and it works fine for me =/ I believe the major providers are Viettel + Vinaphone. I swap to their sim card and text back here when I'm on vacation =P No issues. |
Ah gaah thanks. I guess I will have to call Vietnam lol. |
OMG SimplyComplex - Are you Vietnamese?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! |
Yes...? But I probably not seem like it at all if you knew me =3 |

Checkout my status. :) |
Err... But to VN, it's like +01184(number) |
+ and 011 do not go together. It's either or. |
So I lied. It's sometimes +84 =/ I dunno why. |
Vietnamese carriers supported on the Fido/Rogers Network: Verisgn Vietnam Telecom Vietnam Mobile Viettel Mobile365 EVN Telecom (fixed wireless) Hanoi Telecom (fixed wireless) Mobifone STelecom (SLD Telecom / S Fone) Viettel Vinaphone And using +xx or 011 does not make a difference. Just don't use both. :) |

Hey darth, WHO MADE THE FIRST ATTACK??!?!!? :haha: *clears throat* So there are no restrictions, in general, for texting a foreign number? I remember texting Sprint by accident one time and it went through nice and quick. I'm curious as I might be texting to or from HK in the near future. |
^I text my buddy in HK all the time, it gets through 90% of the time. So does my hefty international text bill :( |
The only restrictions are if your carrier has no agreement with the end-carrier you're sending the text message to. In most cases, it's pretty rare these days as most carriers either go through Verisign or Mobile365. |
