Dell Netbook for 299.99 what do you guys think? http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde..._hmpage_slide1 i just bought it because it was cheap. i don't know if i should keep it.. lol it will only be for surfing the internet and word processing. no porn, no games, no music. so i don't need a big harddrive and good video card.. any suggestions? i have 14 days to decide! =D |
its not a bad deal and the best thing is you can load osx on to it! |
4cell battery 8gb ssd. lol dude at least get the acer aspire 160gb hdd model, then u can do music, porn, and older games |
what's osx? haha, don't need 160gb. i have a 400gb hd for my desktop and i only use about 10gb i don't play games. |
osx = mac |
bought one for my sister on friday. after a few days of use, its not bad, but not the greatest. it does wat its suppose to do - which is for surfing and documents. dont expect it to perform like a regular sized laptop. wat i like about it: -small and compact -screen is pretty sharp and bright when its at full contrast. also uses LED backlight from wat i heard -like the esthetics of it - the bestbuy version only comes in white -battery life was awesome - it gave me about 4hrs - i timed it by working on it while watching the canucks game. started using it at around 7pm and died at around 1030pm -the mouse buttons are on the bottom of the mouse pad instead of the side like the acer ones -after upgrading the bios, the f11 and f12 keys are available -ram slot is easy to access so if you need to upgrade to 2gb, its easy. wat i didnt like about it: -8gb ssd mini pci-e harddrive - its almost proprietary and too expensive to upgrade. -after installing the essential programs, you're left wit about 2-3gb of space compressed -keyboard layout - it takes some time to get use to it. like for example the right shift key is all the way at the end. as a storage solution, i also got a 16gb sdhc for $30, formatted it to ntfs and just leave it in there. works pretty well. also theres a coupon to knock off $25 off if you spend over $250. so total after was around $350 http://www.bestbuy.ca/marketing/rzco...gon=&langid=EN |
^ In terms of a budget netbook, the Dell Mini 9 is a definitely a solid choice, especially at that price and with the $25 off coupon. Using the SDHC slot for added storage is cheap and easy. If you really want more music, grab a couple of these cards for cheap. Spending a little more money on an Asus Eee PC 1000H (HA/HE, etc.) will get you a fair bit more in just about every way, but that's an extra $100-$200. Edit: The right shift key location really bugged me too. It's the same on the Eee PC 1000H, but they fixed it in the HE. The MSI Wind is a decent choice too. I don't like the mouse button layout and build quality of the Aspire. |
I can't wait to see the new Dell Mini 10. It's in a class of it's own with the features it has. |

was your very laggy? i can't even stream tv shows.. the video is choppy as shit it took 3-5 seconds to load windows explorer... the initial start up was laggy as hell as well. it took over 15 mins to run through all those next screens let me know how your video streaming goes. it's looks nice and feels solid. but my only purpose for this was to watch tv shows online. :D |

loading xp takes about 30seconds from boot to the desktop. heres a good website to get some info if you want http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/inde...996bd9d5be5e84 edit: read that you should try to decompress the c: and turn off indexing and it should speed up the load times. as for the video lag, it seems like its a known problem for this netbook |
time to install TinyXP! at least install a non-dell bloated XP |
