B16a2 mods Just bought a car with a b16a2 in it. Was wondering what kind of engine modifications would be best to start out with. It has AEM cold air intake and NGk spark plug wires |
What do you want to do with it Boost or n/a? Start off with some good maintenance, new plugs, fuel filter, cap, rotor, oil change, timing belt if its been close to 100k km since it was done. |

what kind of car you get? |
Cams and Adjustable cam gears. but maintenance would be a good start. |
96 civic black and thank you for all your input. timing belt was just done and just painted some rims yesterday gold! |
I would start off with full exhaust, header and intake, then go from there. Then you could go cams and camgears, ECU... |
If the maintenance is done and you just want some more N/A (acronym for lost potential) power then get a 4-1 header, 2.5" exhaust, high flow cat, full length with bypass valve or, whale penis intake, your preference on cams, probably need springs and retainers also, cam gears, an obd-1 conversion, and chipped ecu for crome, ecutune, hondata (gay) etc. |
why is hondata gay??! |
I was thinking about getting a AEM wideband what are your thoughts on that?! |

Aem widebands are fine but I prefer the Innovate units. |
i'd forget all the NA stuff and save up for a turbo kit. NA is equally expensive and you get hardly any gains. You don't need to run massive boost or make massive power, but the torque and hp gains in a basic turbo kit are significant over NA when speaking dollar for dollar. |
When you turbo a Stock Block B16 its only a matter of time before you break your ringlands. I know of 3 people, myself included, that toasted their B16's with boost. Innovative is the way to go with the wideband and as for mods... Run a set of GSR cams if your going to keep the head stock or get R cams with R springs for a good boost in powerband. Berz out. |
