i've done projects down there and many years ago and i'm sure it's even more difficult to work down there these days

It's deteriorated significantly over the last couple of years, it's like 3rd world condition down there ... I don't blame any street beat cop in the DTES. What the hell would you do if some guy took a broom and started bashing your partner's head?

I have no idea what dude did, but I for one, am glad I'm in Canada.
That guy would literally be dead if it were the US.

Also...isn't the platform up there a dead-end?

Thick baggy hoody. Likely at least one of the barbs from the taser got snagged up in the cloth, and didn't make proper contact.

They actually have a specific taser cartridge that has longer Barbs for getting through thicker clothing.

Article on the taser incident.
https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/metr...calator-knives

He was threatening strangers in Metro w/ a knife, dropped the knife but pulled out a second knife and got tazed, pulled out the tazer, ran up, and got arrested in a skytrain car with a third knife.

Also, apparently dude is 17. I thought he was 30.

At what point do u just shoot this guy? He could of easily grabbed any unsuspecting person or child and harmed them as he was getting away.

Mr.Money 08-04-2022 05:29 AM

imagine if he tried the wrong guy without a care in the world. :lawl:

Sorry, but I thought the cops were a bit too easy on him. I think they could have used more higher level methods to incapacitate him at the station. Now knowing that he pulled a knife, grabbed a 2nd, and had 3 more. I know cops didn't know the 3 more on him part but still ... things could have gone a lot worst. What if he pulled a knife on someone unsuspecting up at the platform.

If cops had to shoot, then shoot the leg or something. I mean there were 3-4 cops standing there, guns drawn, with a few moments ... they could have some coordination with 2 aiming at him and 2 aiming below at his leg or something. He needed to be incapacitated and quick. I much rather have this guy shot at the leg than some lady up on the platform waiting a train or someone in the train (he was arrested in a train further down the line) who could have gotten hurt or severely traumatized.

westopher 08-04-2022 07:16 AM

You can’t shoot at legs. You aim for the biggest target under pressure, or you miss. The other issue could be clear shots. No one wants to hit a bystander.

whitev70r 08-04-2022 07:33 AM

I see that my question is an uninformed noob one that is often asked, namely, 'Why not shoot to incapacitate?' and a simple google search confirmed what you said. As well, arms and legs move too fast to be a reliable target.

westopher 08-04-2022 08:10 AM

Yeah I mean, I’d love it if that were possible. It would result in so many less unnecessary police deaths, but that’s one of those, in theory yes, in practice no kind of things. I can’t imagine how hard it is to shoot a gun under pressure and hit what you want to hit.
That’s another reason the gun craze in America is so stupid. Like, John plumber isn’t gonna win a fucking gunfight. He’s way more likely to accidentally shoot his wife than he is to ever stop a bad guy.

JDMDreams 08-04-2022 08:34 AM

I think I watched something on YouTube before, they say cops aim for the body as it's the biggest and easiest target. Limbs move too fast that's why so many suspects die cuz they ain't aiming for your legs.

68style 08-04-2022 08:52 AM

It's not an action movie in real life haha

whitev70r 08-04-2022 09:47 AM

I love how in movies, two people have guns drawn, aimed at each other, one has a hostage, and the other is a cop. Cop shoots and hits the shoulder of the bad guy and incapacitate him ... happy ending :lol.

Guess that essentially what tazers and rubber bullets are for ... to incapacitate.

idk how that station is laid out but it looks like there's nothing solid behind the guy, just glass. it also looks quite busy. that's the last place you'd want to be firing a gun.

Drove downtow hwy1 was backed the hell up and there were police all over Kensington exit and a car had a blanket over it, turns out it was another shooting

https://beta.ctvnews.ca/local/britis...17332.amp.html

hchang 08-07-2022 05:28 AM

Drove eastbound 4pm, saw the blanket, couldn't piece together the large police presence, no accident, and would imagine itd be pretty difficult to do a successful drive by on a highway

Never crossed my mind that they could be transporting themselves still after being shot

Chasing after other party maybe? Since other vehicle found brentlawn road Burnaby

Or if they were smart just wait at the exits going back into Surrey :troll:

Edited, better grammar. Happened downtown, near Roxy Cabaret

"When officers arrived, they were confronted by the suspect who was still armed with the weapon."

Police described the man's weapon as a "machete," and said on Twitter around 1:30 a.m. Sunday that police had shot the suspect.

68style 08-07-2022 06:48 AM

Why are news alerts being written by people with such terrible grammar?

Not to mention the information is wrong and the shooting didn't even happen at the Roxy.
