hit and run claim, affect insurance? hey guys i got hit a run a few days ago and i have a few questions... 1) is a hit and run considered a comprehensive or collision deductible... collision for me is 500$ and comprehensive is 300$ 2) if i get a hit and run claim will it affect my insurance? i'm a new driver still and insurance is already pretty ridiculous thanks |
you pay your collision deductible on hit and run. it won't affect your premium. |
so it's considered a collision deductible then? |
you pay your collision deductible on hit and run. it won't affect your premium. |
...k thanks |
Heads up though, with ICBC, they can and will investigate your claim if the damage isn't an obvious hit and run. I'm sure the adjustor will take a nice long look at the damage like they always do, especially if the damage is excessive. Of course, the more money they have to fork out, the harder time they MAY give you if they can try to prove that you may have caused the damage yourself. My neighbour backed out of her driveway in the middle of the night and crunched our car's driver's door awhile ago since it was parked on the street. Confronted her about it and ended up claiming hit and run since she just denied it. The way the damage was on our car, it was instantly obvious there was no way it was a self conflicted hit, so they paid out for the repair right away. Paid the $300 deductable and of course, insurance rate didn't go up. Good luck! |
doesn't affect it but if you do not have a witness then you have to pay deductible. Happened to both of my cars last year. |
i was wondering if a hit and run claim would be shown on a icbc collision check...like carfax? |
what if you have a witness, do you still pay your deductible?? I was driving during winter (day time), and a suv was taking a right turn 2 fast and slid into my drivers door. He kinda bounced off my car and went straight. I was parked at a red light, i got out when it was safe since it was close to a highway. The driver kept going and never came back, i didnt see his license, since there where cars right behind him. The car behind me saw all of it, and i got there info. I reported this to ICBC and they said i have to pay a deductible since i didnt get the hit and run's license #, witness'es did not matter.. Is this true? |

Do you guys not somewhat read the contract or talk to your ICBC rep agent who is selling you insurance? Or do you guys just go in with a blank cheque or credit card and sign the papers without having a clue on how your insurance works? |
As I recall, if they catch the other driver, they'll refund you your deductible and stick him for it... but without him, you have to pay it yourself. |
i got backed into in december... saw it from my balcony. ran downstairs and the driver had left, but i knew what they were driving. 30 minutes later, they were back and parked accross the street. i grabbed the lic plate number, called icbc, said i knew who hit me, and got my deductible waved.. good times. |
off topic but what penalty would someone get for a hit and run? it doesnt sound like anyone gets like a huge fine for it? or am i missing something? |
If memory serves, hit-and-run could be a criminal offense, especially if bodily injury or death results. It's pretty damn serious, either way. I know it's been answered before - try searching in Police Forum. |
