Photos write slowly to card

Ok, I don't know if I'm on crack or if I simply never payed attention to this, but I'm using the XTi and have a Sandisk 4GB Ultra II card which I've used for a while. I'm taking exposures that are about 10 seconds long, and I've noticed that it takes about 10 seconds to write it to the card before it shows on the back of my LCD. This is a JPG file too and not a RAW file. I've formatted the card (just in case) but it still takes the same amount of time.

I also found last night that with low battery (had about 1/4 charge) a 4 second exposure was writing to the card for couple seconds and the camera would freeze. Turning the power off wouldn't do anything. The power light was still on and so was the "writing to card" light. It seemed normal again after the battery was fully charged.

I tried shooting something with faster shutter speed (1/125) and it writes within couple of seconds.

Is this normal?

Thanks

PS. 8GB Ultra II card does exact same thing.

If it takes the same time as the exposure, I think you might have noise reduction on.

You beat me to it! I was just going through my custom settings and yes, you're correct, I had the noise reduction on. I remember now I was screwing around with my camera the other day and turned that setting on to see if it would make any difference, except I haven't shot anything since then, until now lol

Thanks :)
