DTP Vancouver will be taking a Hiatus for 2009

We have always worked closely with the staff and crew for DTP, Envision Entertainment Inc.

Just got word from Jason... though lots of local support for the show, no one is immune to the affects from the economy. This does not mean they are gone for good, just taking a breather this year... which gives me more time to get my car ready for showing :)

I know they will come back next year 10 fold stronger!

WESTERN CANADA’S LARGEST AND MOST ESTABLISHED AFTERMARKET AUTOMOTIVE LIFESTYLES TOUR ANNOUNCES HIATUS FOR 2009

Vancouver, British Columbia - DRIVEN TO PERFORM, known also as DTP and produced locally by Envision Events Inc., will be suspending its tour this season ending what would have been its eighth consecutive year as Western Canada’s largest and longest running aftermarket automotive lifestyles show.

For the past seven years since 2002, the tour has annually exhibited hundreds of jaw dropping vehicles from all over North America in each city it visits. Driven To Perform also showcased everything from the newest accessories, performance parts, to the latest in mobile audio and video technology – basically all products and services a car fanatic would want. In addition to the show-stopping cars, trucks and bikes, the events also boasted multiple lifestyle components.

“It has been an unforgettable and truly extraordinary seven year run for the show series. During this time, it became the largest and most established tour of its kind in the country – a genuine credit to the multitude of supporters and exceptional sponsors who kept the event going and growing year after year. The current global financial climate, however, is not something we can simply ignore. In particular, the economic crisis facing the automotive industry makes it impossible for us to continue until further notice. On behalf of the entire staff, I would like to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to B.C. Place Stadium and other partners, sponsors, and most importantly – to all our loyal registrants and attendees – Thank You!” says Jason Tse, with Sales and Marketing at Envision Events Inc.
Joseph Richard, Event Manager at B.C. Place Stadium, expressed disappointment at the cancellation announcement, as it was always one of the most popular on the venue’s calendar of events and noting that the facility will eagerly anticipate the show’s return.

In the past seven years many notable personalities have made appearances including but not limited to: Kaba Modern from MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, recording artists such as Elise Estrada and Cory Lee, UFC Middleweight Fighter Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald and Octagon Girl Arianny Celeste, as well as reality television show sweethearts such as Melissa Reyes from Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search For the Next Doll, Jayla Rubinelli from America’s Next Top Model, and Jennylee Berns from Beauty and the Geek. Coupled with the region’s largest urban dance competition, R/C cars, DJs and more, the series was a major tour de force and is a destination event that will surely be missed by the youth community.

With thousands of visitors per show, for each of the cities the tour visited, the event undoubtedly had a significant economic impact.
Some major sponsors last year included: Toyo Tires, Mobil 1, Pepsi, Mazda, Honda, Lordco, General Motors, London Drugs, Mitsubishi, and Exedy.

Despite this announcement, there are currently plans to continue production of aftermarket automotive events this year (2009) in Alberta and Manitoba, albeit under a different brand, format and management. Thanks Shoei, RS has always been a focal point and the model of support from the community and for that we're grateful. We genuinely appreciate the relationships we've built with our partners throughout the years. The industry will get worse before it gets better.. but it will get better in time.

lilaznviper 02-21-2009 10:27 PM

marc0lishuz 02-22-2009 02:24 AM

How sad. :(

Save up your monies and bring it hard in 2010.

ineedNOS 02-22-2009 10:45 AM

Thats too bad i was looking forward to go this year, without DTP i was thinking that this might be a good year to head back to HIN in Seattle, but looking the HIN website it looks like HIN cancelled Seattle also. F*CK!!! no show in the entire pacific northwest.

Lets all hope for economic recovery and countdown to DTP 2010! ..YES WE CAN!!!

hk20000 02-22-2009 11:49 AM

RS meet = ALL the tuners better show up.

Trophies are nice, but you know being in the community is about more than that. Make a strong showing at the RS meet and hope we can bring back interest!

O and chicks better go there in skanky clothes, getting paid is one thing but...... you know where I'm getting at LOLZ.

yvrnycracer 02-22-2009 01:04 PM

So I am guessing TOYO canceled their sponsorship given they will be operating events in AB/MB under a different name?

Too bad...

Tim Budong 02-22-2009 01:23 PM

RS meet will be better than DTP i sense?
ahaaha

jlenko 02-22-2009 03:37 PM

How's that song go.... doh doh doh... another one bites the dust!!!

It was said that Importfest and some other shows would come back too... they never did. Now, with no DTP this year... there are officially NO VANCOUVER SPORT COMPACT SHOWS anymore.

I'm hopeful that it'll return next year... but I'm skeptical at the same time, because I've heard it before.

Off to Seattle again, I guess!!

JSALES 02-22-2009 04:05 PM

wow, that's shitty

PavelGTR 02-22-2009 05:29 PM

sucks...

death_blossom 02-23-2009 12:47 AM

aw man, I missed last year's show and now I'll have to "miss" it again this year. :(

DTP has always been a good show to see the best of what the local import scene has to offer. I hope Jason and the gang will work hard to bring DTP back for 2010!

FeistyBearH22a 02-23-2009 11:25 AM

Hmmmm. I'll still go to the Calgary show. May be the Edmonton one!

Hopefully, this will help people to appreciate the ONLY import car show we have in this city.
