Collections Agency Scam? Beware So my cousin got a letter saying he owes Fido $150 he doesn't remember ever owing them any money so he calls the collections agency enquiring about it he asked for a timeline or any information they can give him about this, even an account number the rep on the phone said he didnt have and couldnt find any information about the account, but he had better pay! the guy offered him an account number to direct deposit funds for faster processing the questioning becomes somewhat cyclical here so my cousin tells the guy that he's going to the police because this collection doesn't feel right after hearing this the rep told him to hold while he talks to his manager the manager gets on the line and says "oh we're sorry but we've had errors in our system in the past and it seems like a mistake has been made, we'll clear your debt" my cousin was like "woah hold on here this sounds even fishier now" and demands more information the manager tells him that he'll have to wait while they sort this out and when they do they'll get back to him "that's all we can do atm" its been a week and he hasn't heard from them forgot the name of the collections agency they used, ill get it from hiim when i wake up but just a heads up if you do get a collections, enquire about it rather than just paying it no questions |
CBV COLLECTIONS? |
fishy |
Well that definitely sounds wrong. I would have just called fido instead and I would must likely contact police. This has raised so many red flags that you just have to absolutely report it even if it is a "system error". But how does the questioning become cyclical? How is it relating to cycles? |
Big time scam... |
Same thing happened to me a while back. Scam red flag alert in my head. I got the agency's name number and googled them and turned out like a legit collection agency. I then called fido and turned out someone used my lost SIN to open an account. I sorted it out with fido and it was the end. Moral of the story, dont carry your SIN in your wallet. And get the agent's name number etc and tell them you will call them back. In meantime, google them up. |
Anyone get a recorded call from an anonymous caller who leaves a message saying "We are calling about an important business matter. Please call us at 1-800-xxx-xxxx" They have called every day for the past 2 and a half weeks. I don't have caller ID and usually the message is left on my machine. I will be reporting it to the Telus Fraud line on Monday as they are only open on weekdays. I looked up the number they left me on the net and found out that it belongs to NCO collections. But it's kind of funny, they don't leave their business name or a contact. Scam or legit? |

just ask for the documentation behind the debt. i deal with collections at work periodically and they'll forward me what i need before i pay anything out. |
just call fricken fido if your worried |
CRS Collections? I got a call couple days ago from them, it was like from a 905 number. I didn't pick up, but they left a really obvious fake voice mail saying that I owed them money, and they gave me fake account number and everything. |
I got a random call on Friday it said: "You have an urgent message. To listen to this message, press 1" |

I get calls at work (not at home, but at a pizza place, registered as a pizza place, in the phone book as a pizza place) letting me know that there is a serious problem with my credit that requires my immediate attention, to call back immediately. When we first opened, I guess the number for our second line used to belong to someone with bad credit. A collections agency called us, we said it's a pizza place, and they asked us to prove it. So we told them to f- off and hung up. Last we ever heard of it. |
