yet another question about suits-simple question

is it a good idea to get a suit from moores but get it tailored somewhere else by a better tailor? thanks

Is moores poor at tailoring? I would think the fact they do it in house would be cheaper and you would get the same quality as an offsite tailor no? Also if you let Moores do it and they fuck it up... it's easier to get a new one I would think.

Alterations done at Moores will be of similar quality to anywhere else you could get it done at. Nothing to worry about, at the very least. I personally need suits custom tailored because I have a particularly broad chest and shoulders. Much more expensive, but that's the best possible way to ensure a great fit.

sounds good guess ill get it tailored at moores then thanks

What does it cost you to get a suit tailored? I am going to have to get one done soon as well.

depends on how much it needs tailored. pants are around 35 and jacket is another 30 ish

i also found moores to have shit suits compared to tip top tailors. plus every time i go to tip top tailors i can haggle them down or get them to throw stuff in.

$35 to tailor pants? why do pants need to be tailered? I thought they just need to have their length altered and that costs only like 10 bucks?...just buy a waste size and style (slim fit, regular) that fits you..

and question, if you buy a suit from moores, do they tailor it for free?

You could probably get a suit of acceptable fit and questionable quality at the 900 dollar range, but 1500 is closer to what I'd say the bottom range for a well tailored suit would be. Top of the range you'd have to sell your Civic two or three times over... I shop in Toronto but I know one of my previous co-workers had suits made by Samson's. That's the only shop around Vancouver that I can say I've seen their work, and I can confirm he makes great looking suits.

don't get it tailored at moores, they can't tailor for shit. i'm speaking from personal experience.

Fafine 03-05-2009 03:30 PM

would tiptop be a better choice to get the suit from? price range $500-600

Brianrietta 03-05-2009 05:22 PM

As chain retailers go, Moores is a great choice for suits and traditional business dress apparel. From what I've seen in the past I would rate their overall quality higher than TipTop, but that may have changed in the last few years... Shop around though, try on different types of suits, different materials, cuts, etc, and see what works with your budget and feels right.

I love TipTops, in general, not just for suits, but more casual wear. I have purchased a couple of suits there in the past, during sales, and got them tailored there, and they did a great job. The salesman at Tip Top did a great job at sizing me up.

Good experience from moores, and they;'ve had some pretty good prices so far too. Picked up 2 suits recently for 500$, alerations were I think 9$ for length and about the same for widening the waist.

Tip Top is utter garbage, or at least 7 years ago they were when I picked up my first suit from them. They cannot tailor for shit - the suit is still ridiculously oversized on the shoulders and I've gained at least 20 lbs over the past 7 years. It's too bad I didn't know better when I was 16. 100% recommend against.
