Watchmen Just got back from the midnight show, figured it deserved its own thread. Thing is tho, I'm not sure that it does. Having just read the graphic novel a couple weeks ago, I had a fairly good grasp on the source material and explanation of characters and their motivation, as well as a great appreciation for what the authors were trying to say. There are two huge issues for me with this movie, the soundtrack being worst of all. The music, most of which is either sourced from the early-1980's or 'Nam era protest rock, is not bad in its own right of course (besides the absolute travesty of a song "99 red balloons"). But in a movie of this tone, it ruins any sort of mood. The love scenes, the battle scenes in Vietnam, and many more are ruined with terrible music choices. Second of all, with the exception of Rorschach, there's no development of character - if I hadn't known it all already, I likely woulda been lost. I think the majority of audiences will be too busy trying to figure out who the characters are and why to actually pay attention to the story. Regretably, the movie has left me feeling... nothing. I wanted to love it, and there is plenty to love, but overall the movie is just unengaging somehow. There is something big missing. -I will point out that Jackie Earle Haley, playing Rorschach, was FUCKING AMAZING. I would put it right up there with Heath Ledger as the best acting ever in a movie of this type. Just awesome. |
looks horrible and i shall not be wasting me rupees on it at the theatre |
going to see it tonight. I don't really have any expectations for it - started reading the novel last year, and got through like 30 pages... It's a depressing, and slow read. Hopefully the movie will be at least a little entertaining |
Your review is absolutely spot on. My thoughts exactly on all of it (other than that I read it a while ago). |
i seen it last night meh |
I wasted 12 bucks watching this movie >_< |
Even when I was reading the graphic novel almost 2 years ago, I remember having trouble trying to figure out the characters. The movie did clear up some leftover questions I had about the characters, but would be confusing as hell for anyone that hadn't read the novel. On a positive note, my sister's hot friend (from Victoria) plays the pregnant Vietnamese girl, who is getting a big boost to her acting career. |
I watched the movie without reading the book. I was able to follow it and it all made sense except the blue thing that the rich guy had at the end of them movie, although I figured it had something to do with pharaoh theme he was going for. Quote:
Edit: Found this on another site, thought it was a good laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDDHHrt6l4w |
