a quote from Peter Schiff

"Of course, when unfunded liabilities, such as Social Security obligations, are included, the real national debt exceeds $50 trillion, or over six times the official estimates"

orange7 03-08-2009 07:37 PM

think about the amount of pallets needed for 1 trillion dollar in $20 bills

Thats overly stupid. That pack of a 1 million dollars is NO WAY close to 100 packets. It looks like 8 packs, not 100. So the trillion is way out of scale.

looks right to me

pick up a textbook or book, and look at what 100 page looks about.

its 4-5 mm, lets presume its 5 mm

5mm * 100 packets = 500 mm, which is under 20 inches

the picture shows 2 rows of bills, so 20/2 = 10 inches long

InvisibleSoul 03-08-2009 09:27 PM

That's a pretty useless visualization...

Why stop at showing it as $100 bills? Why not show it as pennies? You'll need 10,000 of them for each $100 bill.

Obviously when dealing with these extreme numbers, you'll never ever actual need all that paper to change hands...

And if it gets to where those extreme numbers are needed for everyday transactions, like Zimbabwe, obviously they'll start creating larger and larger bills...

Wrong...

The bill in the picture is the 3rd dollar, but the current exchange rate is based on the 4th dollar.

One dollar from the 4th series is worth one billion dollars in the 3rd series.

Meaning...

That bill is now worth 0.000001¢ CAD.

InvisibleSoul 03-09-2009 02:56 PM

And here's a real hundred trillion dollar bill looks like... :)

It's Zimbabwe. You'd have more use out of Canadian Tire money.

Well, as the article says, $1M USD is 100 bundles... so you can fit that into a suitcase. Might be a little difficult to stuff $3M though...
