Best mod to make 01-03 jetta go fast(er)!?
 

I'm on the market for a 2001 to 2003 jetta and these things are front wheel drive.

I'm a student and don't have that much money to be spending just like that so I'll try to spend smartly, so... what's a good mod for the jetta and what price and what does it exactly do (how much faster, hp, etc)

I want to get a jetta because they look really nice with some aftermarket rims and exhaust, i'll be doing that to it also.

if you get a jetta and want a cheap upgrade get the 1.8T and get it chipped. they normally increase output quite noticeably as well as increase the boost pressure.

i think you can get it chipped for $400-500

What's your overall budget? Are you just going to lay down the cash up front for both the vehicle and upgrades, or just dump all the money into the car and upgrade later? If it's the former, I'd suggest the 1.8T and chipping it with either APR's or Neuspeed's system. Depending on if it's setup for 91 or 93octane, both will yield roughly between 180hp and 210hp/210tq, but if you're willing to spend a bit extra on the car itself, look for a slightly newer model 1.8T (2004+, I think) as it's about 30hp more powerful than the earlier variation of that generation.

I think it's the 02+ for the 1.8T it comes with 180HP iirc.

a buddy of mine has a 04 GTI, and he hates the fact that there's turbo lag, andi t really doesn't kick in until about 3500rpm.

as long as you can live with that then you'll have a decently quick car.

All turbo cars have turbo lag.

Yup, you're right. 150hp prior to '02 and 180hp after that.

Complaining about lag on a 1.8t? Wow have you ever seen the size of a K03? You can spool it by blowing into it.

I have, i thought it boosted quite well. but these were his words

if he is running the stock turbo (k03-sport), then full boost should be kicking in around 2000-2200rpm. that's how it is on my '03 Jetta. I ran a demo program by REVO several years back, and at 2000rpm, the boost would kick in hard, as in tire chirping hard!

Im running Revo on my 2002 jetta 1.8t, and there is nothing to complain about!

i was actualy thinkin about getting one of these 1.8ts too but is there any transmission problems or anythin i shuld worry about befor buyin this car? dont wanna end up buyin this car and having to replace the transmission or sumthin like that..

The standards are pretty good, a few shift fork issues but if you drive the car decent you'll have no problems. The autos though....STAY AWAY!! It's doesn't matter it if an auto or auto/tiptronic, they are plain junk and a fortune to repair/replace.

I think the last automatic transmission that Volkswagen made that was actually reliable was the 3spd found in the second gen Jetta and Golfs.

How about a Vr6 jetta and a kinetics turbo kit, for less than 15000 car included you will have 250 odd whp.

That's for sure!! That trans atleast works, is easy to fix and parts are cheap for them!

Man i want a 04-05 Jetta GLI. Those are very delicious.... (plus insurance should be cheaper than a GTI..lol)
