Question: how to take a headlight apart.
 

awhile ago i heard bake it in the oven will makes it easier to take it apart. Is it true?

baking it in the oven will melt the glue enough so the housing can be seperated.

heat the oven at 300 for 10 minutes (TURN ON THE TOP HEATER ON THE OVEN, NOT BOTH OR THE BOTTOM.... JUST THE TOP)

after that

TURN OVEN OFF !!!! <---- very important otherwise you'll melt your headlight, trust me I know, lol

let the oven cool off for 5 minutes with the door closed

then put your headlights on a baking sheet inside the oven on the very bottom

since you never turned the bottom heater on you won't have to worry about it melting the bottom of your headlight....

leave headlights inside for about 10-15 minutes then take out.....

with bare hands pry apart the headlights, the silicone holding it together should be nice soft and stretchy allowing for an easy opening..... by the way, unscrew all the screws in the headlights BEFORE you place them in the oven, they can get extremely hot and burn your hand if touched... once again... trust me, I KNOW.. ahaha

I've done this close to 10 times on my headlights, only fucked up once

or if you're afraid of baking, just use a really hot blow dryer and melt the silicone

i don't always recommend the heat gun as if you're not careful you can melt the back plastic parts


oven for 200 - 250, pre heat then place the headlight in the center leave in for 10 min. I recommend 200 though as the silicon's melting point is very close to that..

i usually just take it out right there and start opening... you're need gloves though... not oven mits. I got mine from rona they're thin enough so your fingers could grab stuff and heat resistent enough to work with the light

does this work for tail lights too (plastic)? mine are leaking (old civic) and they're super grungy inside. i'm thinking of opening them up, cleaning and then resealing them with silicone.

And also a heat gun heats up section by section. You need to heat that silicone simultaneously to pull it apart easily.

Never tried tails before, but don't see why it wouldn't work
