intercooler stenciling?

can someone recommend a place to to a logo stencil on an intercooler? i guess basically cut me out a dimensionally correct sticker that i can use to paint with.

i tried this before on my own and the results were not good...

I've done my own before. You don't have to use a sticker, just use a glue stick on the back of the stencil so that it doesn't move around when you spray it.

What does your design look like?

That looks super easy. Just draw 1/2 the design, put another sheet of paper behind it when you cut it, so that you get an exact double.

Use a self-etching black primer for the black paint - it'll stick to the aluminum much better than any other paint.

u got yourself a fmic for the gti? Which one did u get?

thumper 03-11-2009 06:59 PM

eurojet stage 3. i bought it new/used, so i was not able to get the optional powdercoated logo as shown above :(

but instead of being all black, i just want to paint the logo itself and leave the rest aluminum (ie. reverse of above).

(yes i know i'm missing a hose clamp... still trying to find replacement)

i was hoping to do something similar to this: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-inst...tercooler.html

last time i tried i used card stock and sort of double-sided taped it to the face of an intercooler, but when i sprayed the paint onto my template, the card started to curl and lift which ruined my edges and caused a ragged blurry image instead ...

Hondaracer 03-11-2009 07:04 PM

print out a template on normal paper, use a glue stick and glue the shit out of it onto a bristle board, then use a scalpel and cut the design out, if u want u can also had a second peice of cardboard backing etc. to make it more stiff

stencils are easy to make good

i wish... the install instructions for mine is 12 pages long and what i've been reading online is that it's a 6hr+ DIY install

i'm trying to save up right now for install at clarkdale new motorsports division... $350 w/dubberz discount and i can rent a service loaner if available for the day so i can still work. might as well let a certified vw tech get it right instead of my bumbling guesswork

your install is no different than mine. In fact, mine is more work as its the new stage 2 twincooler.

Install can be done in 2 hours, its really not that hard as I have done it before.

Call up Blitzgear... see if they can make you the decal.

I'd personally leave the FMIC alone. I think it looks too busy with the stenciling on it.

Rich Sandor 03-16-2009 01:00 AM

psst. should be super easy to spray that yourself.

cut the image in 1/2, print 1 full page with 1/2 the image. Put a piece of paper behind it and cut 2 pages out at once. unfold and you have the whole design large enough to cover the whole IC.

make one that says "steal me"

Rich Sandor 03-16-2009 10:17 AM

I was going to do shark's teeth on my intercooler.

Thing is my intercooler is HUGE but the opening is really small so you can't see shit when it's painted.
