Terasen gas rates to take big drop on April 1

Natural gas rates are falling to their lowest levels in five years.

The B.C. Utilities Commission Friday approved rate cuts for Terasen Gas of at least 12 per cent on April 1, to $5.96 per gigajoule (GJ).

The average gas bill will fall to between $124 and $156 per year.

The rate adjustments will not affect Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and Powell River, which are covered by a separate rate structure, and did not experience the rate increases in other regions.

Customers locked into fixed natural gas rates, under the Customer Choice Program, will still be paying $10 per GJ.

Those customers on Terasen’s equal-payment plan will see their rates adjusted to reflect the reduction at the end of the year.

Terasen applies for rate adjustments every three months, so the next application will be in June.

i believe those locked rates can be adjusted IF terasen drops it's price below the locked rates.

u sure? then whats the point of locking in a rate for the independent contractor. they'd have no room for gain. i dont think any business would do that to themselves

Yup, those guys are super underhanded with their tactics too. They often try to pose as if they are affiliated with Terasen, and that one HAS to make a choice or else ZOMGHBLKHSA one has to stay with Terasen. -_-

I asked the one of those door to door guys why he was a holding a cover letter with the Terasen logo on it and why did he keep on trying to flash it to me. He never mentioned what group he was from either. He just had that Terasen logo on what looks like a memo on top of a black clipboard/notebook.

He looked at me like I just called him out infront of his entire family for lying and had the biggest "wtf, how are you even asking that question?" look on his face. Needless to say, it was priceless.

Haha, yeah, I had one of those dipshits from summitenergy.com come to my door telling me I should lock in at $7.99/GJ for the first 6 months whereafter it would rise to a locked in rate of $9.99/GJ for the following 4 and a half years. I currently pay $7.36/GJ. I told him "sorry, not interested." and let him freeze his ass off outside.

thank god it about time.... I work at a bank and it painful to see people paying $500 + for their terason gas bill. Lots of people complain they spend more than half of their pay cheque to pay the stupid gas bill

$500? Are we talking monthly for a single family house?

Synaptik 03-15-2009 01:37 PM

ya, all those independent providers trying to lock me in with a rate made me laugh. they all act like the sky is gonna fall too, like if i dont do it i won't be able to afford heating next winter or some shit.

the easiest way to get rid of them is to say that its not your house and the landlords pay the utilities.

...or give them a lecture on how wrong they are, the economics of the industry, how we're already paying lower...etc.

My mum did that once. :lol
