But for day-to-day use, you do NOT want to discharge your battery over and over if you don't have to. The fastest way to lower the lifespan of a battery is to put it through charge cycles. If you can prevent having to charge the battery, it will last much, much longer. If you are constantly draining it for no reason, you are wasting your battery away.

im always draining it 100% at school..charge overnight, then repeat.
:(

Don't take out unlesss storing, hm so when im at home using it, connecting it to the ac wouldnt affect the battery? Even when it's 100% it's connected?
To put it in a real life situation, Wake up(full charge) unplug ac, go to washroom in the morning take a shit for 20mins (say you used 10%), and then charge it back up 10%, and hten go to school, drain it until it's dead.

So is that good or bad, sorry i'm not getting the idea.

Life of student. Nothing that can be done. :(

There are regulating electronics inside the laptop that will prevent battery overcharge when you have it all the time... Li-Ion's don't really have a "memory" effect per se, either.

same here

twitchyzero 03-15-2009 03:38 PM

yeah i've only owned my eeepc1000 for ~ 7 months and the battery is already down to ~5:15 instead of 6-6:15hours on my 6cell.

This is with pretty low contrast, wifi on, SHE battery saving mode.

With wifi off i think i can still pull off a 7 hour though :p

!Aznboi128 03-15-2009 06:06 PM

i got the eee1000 and dell mini 12 and now a lenovo s10 (between me and my gf) all of them are plugged in all the time. I dont see the point of conserving the life of a netbook isnt really worth it imo. they are pretty cheap if they die/dont work or battery life is less then an hr and a half its time for a new one

good point, so why you have so many netbooks anyway?
Another question, are you people using your books as your main computer right now?
Right now i have a dilemma of selling my book and spending a little more money to buy a 12" so it'll last me on a long term basis. I originally bought the netbook so i could use it temporarily as my main computer for the next few months and wait untiil the fall semester and buy a new laptop.

AsBannedAsItGets 03-15-2009 08:17 PM

netbooks are straight up pimp cause they're so portable.
hopefully i'll buy one soon but I'm fine with my full sized lappy.

v1nce 03-15-2009 08:23 PM

I wish i bought a full size laptop.
Sure, a netbook is cool for a while, but I really miss having a bigger screen and keyboard.

Recently installed NHL09 on my AA1 & it works pretty good lol.

You are right man, it gets tiring using the netbook. I kinda regret not getting 10inch now.. its not much of a difference but meh, dota on the 8.9 incher feels soo weird.
Where'd you cop the nhl 09 btw?

Anyhow i dont know why the headphones(works for ipod) wont work when i plug it in, worked earlier.

v1nce 03-15-2009 10:03 PM

o i downloaded the torrent haha

Got a Dell Mini9; like it so far.

My main desktop (6 years old) exploded awhile ago, so I'm using this as my main computer until I piece together my new quad core machine.

From a 2.4GHz Celeron to a 3GHZ quad core will be quite a nice change.

Well if that's how you have to use it, that's how you have to use it. Don't worry about it.

It won't charge past 100%. It will just keep the battery charged at that point. That's why it's important to keep it plugged in, it prevents the battery from being discharged then have to be charged again, shortening its lifespan.

That is BAD.

You should only ever unplug the laptop when you are taking it on the road, or storing it for weeks.

you are super helpful. Lol thanks + rep.

Now i have a dilemma, to cop a bigger screen laptop with 6cell or just stick with the acer that has a 3cell.. Kinda disappointed at the 3cell how it only holds 2ish hours, but the 1000he has 8hrs. Not fair.

Ikkaku 03-16-2009 12:56 AM

Currently using the aa1, pretty sure its the same one v1nce is using. I'm alternating between that and an ibook g4 for school use. I like using the netbook because I don't need to bring my bigger messenger bag, but at the same time it is more tiring typing with a smaller keyboard, especially with my fat fingers. Biggest problem with my ibook is the designated 32mb graphics card, which is slow even for youtube use. Both have similar battery life (and to think my ibook is a good 5-6 years old).

Can't afford a real laptop, so had to settle with something cheap.

SP, arguement is nessesary process of progress.

OK what I said is to be applied to storing a battery...

But I did find this...

The charge cannot be terminated on a voltage. The capacity reached at 4.2 Volts per cell is only 40 to 70% of full capacity. For this reason you need to continue to charge until the current drops, and to terminate on the low current.

It is important to note that trickle charging is not acceptable for lithium batteries. The Li-ion chemistry cannot accept an overcharge without causing damage to the cell, possibly plating out lithium metal and becoming hazardous.

i guess overcharging doesn't apply to laptops these days since they have safety measures in place.

so, go ahead an charge away! often and early.

Just wondering how much are you guys buying the asus EEEPC 100HE for?

Is it worth selling the aspire one(8.9'' 160gb HD, 3cell) that i have and spending about 100-150 more on the 1000HE(10'', 160gb, 6cell)?

Psykopathik 03-16-2009 03:59 PM

got a MSI wind U90

popped in 2 GB ram, overclocked, 320GB drive and got a 6 Cell battery from DealExtreme for $50 USD

oh and added some ramsinks to the main heat spreader lol

LOL!
Geek squad alert.

How'd you get it with the 320gb drive??

it's pretty much rigged like a regular laptop now.
Anyhow im happy that im selling the aspire one for 350 =D and buying the 1000he?
Anyone know where the deal's at for this netbook?

!MiKrofT 03-16-2009 11:17 PM

He just swapped out the hdd with a bigger one. U90? whyyy the screen is so small yet the netbook is the same size as the u100. 1000HE checkout NCIX.

twitchyzero 03-16-2009 11:27 PM

lulz wtf...it's a netbook!

it's like trying to fit TT v8 in a honda fit.

it's gonna be interesting to see asus put out another Eee that's gonna last ~9 hours of battery life. SHE's impressive..now if they can get those #'s for 10.2" w/ dual-core atom's..that'd be great. Hope it's lighter than it's 1000/h/ha counterpart though..IMO anything over 1kg is too heavy as a netbook.

LC21 03-17-2009 06:47 AM

Performance wins all!!

!MiKrofT 03-17-2009 08:21 AM

Dual core atoms are a ways away. I think at least q3/q4. Mind you the battery life will probably not be as good. Upgrades are cheap now so why not? RAM and HDD are pretty cheap so they're a logical upgrade anyways.

Psykopathik 04-04-2009 12:17 AM

bump

just got me an Asus 1000HE

its awesome.

i ran an online game from 8AM till 1PM on the battery alone. and it was OCed at 1.8ghz

nice big screen. battery does not make a big hump at the back. generous sized touchpad.

BTW i put the 320 GB hdd in the Wind, it didnt come with it. Its going into the 1000HE next. doesnt weigh any more or use more power so why not? i am a storage whore.

i need a variety or pr0n when i travel. :lol
