Has anyone heard of any netbooks that will come out with the ION chipset?
It seems like it's taking them forever to release one..

Sold my Lenovo S10. Now I've also got the 1000HE w00t. It's niice.. battery life is amazing. Upgraded the ram right away to 2gb. Thinking of getting an OS X compatible wifi card and swapping it in. Still deciding either to swap in my 64GB SSD or sell it and get a WD Black 320gb with Freefall Sensor. Quote:

i ran an online game from 8AM till 1PM on the battery alone. and it was OCed at 1.8ghz
nice big screen. battery does not make a big hump at the back. generous sized touchpad.
BTW i put the 320 GB hdd in the Wind, it didnt come with it. Its going into the 1000HE next. doesnt weigh any more or use more power so why not? i am a storage whore.
i need a variety or pr0n when i travel. | |

freefall sensor...so from my understanding it parks the spinning disk to a stop right before it impacts the ground?
Doesnt that happen in less than a minute..how does that work when the drive is spinning 5400-7200 RPM? |

That is BAD.
You should only ever unplug the laptop when you are taking it on the road, or storing it for weeks. | Can you please explain to me the logic behind this i do not quite understand
if you keep a cellphone plugged in all the time, the battery does not hold near it full charge after several months. The same goes with laptops, and I have experienced this on many occassions which is why i tell ppl that use their laptops for prolonged periods of time to unplug their battery. I do not know about you, but these batteries cost a fortune. This is my way of babying my batteries.
by charging continuously the cells that are being discharged, is that not shortening its lifespan by many folds

I've been looking at these for the past few days...
What's the biggest knock on the HP Mini's? Everyone seems to be using the 1000HE

You're only getting a 60GB HDD and 2 USB ports when others for the same price offer a 160-gigger and 3 USB ports AND VGA out AND separate mic/headphone jacks (the Mini has a single headset jack, think iPhone).
I went for it anyway due to the design (it's way better-looking than the competion, IMHO), the slimness, the huge keyboard and the awesome speakers. I love mine lol; it's the overall experience that counted for me.

The free fall parks the drive heads in milliseconds. The platters still spin but since the heads are parked the won't get damaged.

my 6 cell for eee1000 just died. 10 month of moderate usage too wow. Does anyone know if Asus has warranty for their batteries? I remember asus has global warranty and i purchased mine in Taiwan.
charging led still blinks when i plug it in..but when i pull the plug it doesnt work. I pressed it multiple times and i heard a wheezing sound coming from the bat

bump...
Asus is confusing me.. could anyone highlight the main differences between the following EEE PC models for me?
1000H
1000HE
1000HA
1005HA
They all seem to be pretty much the same minus some optional battery sizes. From what I've read in the other thread, I should just pick up a 1000HE or 1005HA?
(This is for the gf, no games, just school)

isn't the 1005 the seashell? it'd b slimmer and better battery life? (i.e. 7hours vs. 9hours RATED)
the most important thing is battery life in these things, then screen size, wireless N if you need it, bluetooth etc.
There's a thread in RFD about the seashell 1005 for like $360, but it doens't have bluetooth, no wireless N etc. with those options it'd b $4xx and just over $5xx with tax i think...
there's also the one i have for sale heh

From the list you should really only consider 1000HE and 1005HA. They have the much improved keyboard and battery life and CPU. N280 vs N270.

Well if you're getting one of these to play games.. you're looking for the wrong type of machine. It'll play games based on HL1 engine I believe at most.
