Groupwork Lets say you have Option evaluation forms on your teammates when working in group assignments. Do many of you use them when your teammates don't pull their weight? I used them before but it seems to me they don't do much other than just submitting a "rant" to the teacher and nothing's done about it. I just got a member that said, "You can write the paper since English is my second language and you write better. If you need ideas, I can generate them." What the fuck? The whole assignment is just writing the paper, and the ideas he generated are already fucking given. Pisses me off. Sometimes, I let it go though. But it seems to me that all these FOBs I'm getting as group members use this as a basis of their excuse, "English is my second language" "I no understand engrish".. I'm really getting sick of it, but is there anything I can do? Do you think it's worth complaining since if you think logically, there's not much they can do to help on the assignment, right? /rant |
Go to the TA or prof and ask them why the fuck you got paired with a FOB. It puts you at a DISadvantage. If this was the business world, this fucker wouldn't cut it. SFU is a business, my scholastic career is a business. This guy would not cut it out there. Then again, you could just do the work for a guaranteed A, whereas if he did his share, you'd be looking @ a C+ and extra time trying to fix his mistakes. |

In the end, it's almost guaranteed that I will be doing majority of the work and getting the decent mark for it, but at least show me that you are a fucking keener and you deserve to be my partner. Out of the 10 recent times I have been in a group work, I have only got good teammates that put in as much effort and good results only ONCE. FUCK! |
Interestingly enough, for 99% of the time I've been paired up, it's been pretty sweet. This semester, however, has been gay ass bullshit. |
instead of rant here tell your team member what's on your mind. i sure did last semester because most of the members we got was just doing nothing or shitty work and expect me to correct their mistakes. in real world you will get assholes working with you so this prepare you how to handle these kind of situations. |
I just tell them I got a pitty C- in high school and first year english and they shut up about the ESL thing. |
Sometimes groupwork can be a blessing, sometimes it can be a curse. Last semester I had a group project, 4 of us in a group and we divided it so 2 did the paper and 2 did the presentation and oral part. Worked out perfectly. This semester, I got paired up with an idiot in one my clases (Labour Studies 389). It felt like I did all the work, generated all the questions, did all the talking and my partner didn't do shit except free ride on me. What a bitch! |
sometimes in a group work im the one that does the lesser amount of work without even realizing it. I think if that's the case and youre the one pulling more weight..you should def let your partners know. I really prefer that..rather then having them of talking shit behind my back after the assignment is handed in to another classmate |
OF course you should talk to your TA! I always get stuck with fobs who write Engrish and are deathly scared of public talking. The last presentation, I swear fob girl literally had her head down the whole time. I was thinking- who the hell are you talking to looking down there? Talked to the TA- he agreed and did not dock marks for my part of the presentation. |
