pennies are approx. 2.5g each. 2.5 * 400,000 = 1,000,000g 1,000,000g = 1,000kg 1,000kg = approx. 2,200lbs |
wow thats awesome i wonder how many times the pyramid fell before it was perfect and how long it took..? |
eaarthquake! lol |

Out of boredom I did a quick calculation with a bit of help from Excel. :) From what it looks like, each layer is 10 pennies "higher" than the layer below. There are 45 layers from top to bottom. If my 10 pennies assumption is correct (maybe someone can eyeball it better than I can?), there are 313950 pennies in this thing, or $3139.50. Not quite $4000. According to Wikipedia, the modern penny weighs 2.35g each. Assuming there are no pre-1997 pennies, this pyramid weighs 737.7825kg, or 1623.1215lbs. |
interesting |

Assuming this was in the USA: Pennies produced before 1982 weighed 3.1g; those made after 1982 weighed 2.5g. As well, pennies that are shiny weigh less than grimy oxidized ones - this is because CuO2 (Copper oxide) forms on the surface as a result of atmospheric oxygen oxidation. If we assume that the average penny in that stack is 2.8g, and that $4,000 = 400,000 pennies, the weight would be 1,120kg not taking into account CuO2 weight. |
that 2nd pic was great it was alot of fun identifying all those famous faces. most fun ive had all day ahahha |
