Touch-up paint?

Someone rubbed up against the back passenger side of my car sometime over the weekend, and i went to VW to get the touch-up pen and im just wondering what's the best way to apply them without leaving ugly marks and lumps?
The sales guy told me to go get some polish and buff it out and stuff, that def helped a lot.

But anyone ever used the touch-up paint for your car?

1) wash the area throughly

2) dry the area thoroughly

3) make sure the area you want to touch up is actually a gouged section of paint, and not a paint transfer, you can easily get paint transfer off with a light thinner or a quick buff

4)if you're 100% its gouged, and dry, shake the touch up well

5) i hope the touchup paint pen is also a brush as well, because the brush actually fills it better.

6)THIN coats into gouges with letting it dry over time

7) after layering over the gouges, and its 100% dried, get wetsanding paper high grit (start with at least 1500), take your time sanding it down, to level with the rest of the paint (ending with around 2000grit)

8) cut polish, start with light, if it doesnt work, use medium by hand.

9)use a non glazing polish followed by a sealant, then a quick wax

10) skip all the above steps by posting a picture and asking what to do. im way too tired to read what i wrote to see if its what i meant, so post a high quality picture for better instructions
