SFU Course Help : Eng 101 or Eng 105 and Cmpt 165 for Summer?

Has anyone taken these courses yet because I am thinking which one to take for the SFU summer semester? What are the disadvantages and advantages of both? Does it depend on the prof? And are both courses pretty much even in the amount of reading and writing involved? Which one is more interesting? Please, any opinions on these topics would help very much! I am also considering Phil 001, 100 or 120. I doubt any of these courses are considered gpa boosters :( On another side note, im planning on taking Cmpt 165 in the summer to fulfill my B-Sc. Any thoughts on what you guys think would be very much appreciated. thanks

Do you want us to tell you how to shit and pee as well? Take what YOU think is interesting. Some people might find quantum physics easy, some might find english easy. It's all up to who ever is taking the course.

Pick what you want, or classes won't be interesting and you will end up doing pretty bad. But relax, you're only in first year.

Phil 001 is easy, take it with mcintosh

K-Dub 03-16-2009 11:14 PM

kin110 / kin143.
:D

cmpt 165 is easy if your not doing distance ed. i don't recommend any phil courses at all unless you love seeing your gpa drop lol. i took xx1 and the reading is light but the exams are fucking retarded.

im in the bba program right now and i am taking what im interested in but i gotta fullfill my b-hum and b-sc requirements and it's kinda hard for me to find something interesting for b-hum and b-sc. Plus, I'm not the greatest writer and just wanted an idea on how eng 101 and 105 were ... But yea I agree. it is only my first year.

i don't see how this thread is going to help you... you should do it on your own preference... I've taken eng 105 and cmpt 165 but they're both different i mean one's english and one's comp sci... and i've taken phil 100 as well... which is again.. different...

i don't know if these are electives or not for you but if you're having this much trouble deciding a 100 level course then god help you with the remainders..

hint.. they're all easy courses but obviously cmpt 165 was the easiest for me since i'm comp sci major...

those are easy too.. i love kin...

Cmpt 165 is the easiest course you'll ever take. Don't take phil unless you have to. Both phil courses I took (phil xx1 and phil 120) were the lowest grades I ever got in university and I have a pretty high gpa... so yeah.

bbbj 03-17-2009 11:04 AM

Don't take ENGL 105.. got fucking owned so bad in that class. Was good for 14 weeks of sleeping though.

gnat. 03-17-2009 12:23 PM

eng.105 depends on your TA. there's a lotta of essay writing fsure! a lotta notes too!
pretty hard actually! wouldn't recommend

Seeing that this is a "SFU Course Help" thread, I was wondering if any of you know any easy Quantitative courses offered during the summer. I nearly forgot that I still need three credits towards my Q... -_-"

Sorry for hijacking the thread, OP.

For KIN143, did you take distance? It's offered in the summer only as DE, and I have bad memories for DE courses...

kin143 is the easiest course to take distance ed
cause you could just lie and not do the physical activity lab part
but i still recommend getting out and being active....dont be lazy. summers a nice time for it.

jroc12 03-18-2009 09:06 AM

wow since there are only 38 seats available for kin 143 and 30 on the waiting list, that means only 8 people can get in !?!?

J-force 03-18-2009 03:10 PM

When is your course selection date?

jimzilla 03-18-2009 08:08 PM

mbb 442 you get to learn about proteins

AMDB9 03-26-2009 09:54 AM

Kin 110 is hard distance ed! especially if you want an A. Engl 105 is alot of reading (1 text, 6 novels), but if you don't mind reading its a good course

jroc12 03-26-2009 06:21 PM

anyone recommending kin 140 ? I hear kin 110 has ALOT of memorization ..

Powerslide 04-09-2009 08:05 PM

I'll vouch for KIN143 too
i took it up on campus
got me back into fantastic shape for running

kin140 is pretty easy. I hardly ever went to class (it was an 8:30 one), slightly failed the mid-term, didn't do well on my quizzes, and did mediocre on my assignments. All in all I managed a B-.

My prof was penny deck.

fo_shizzled 04-22-2009 09:47 AM

Kin 140 is easy distance ed, 3 assignments (all easy), reading is not to bad (don't read the articles), and mid term and final are okay
