How so? instead of a hug console and changing disc all the time...everything will be neatly organized online in one screen on your tv screen.

This makes a lot of sense...playstation and xbox better get their act together because this is the future.

The technology is there... only problem is the infastructure and graphics...Japan has crazy internet speeds

Wouldn't it make more sense if you download the game.....and THEN stream the game play online? I donno....somehow you gotta have SOME backbone in order to keep the game running smoothly at least right? oO

It will.

Paying 400-500 for the latest box every 5 years doesnt make sense. Also it's a pain in the ass for developers to port games to different systems. This may not take over tomarrow but it is the future.

They said the technology took them 7 years to hammer out.

Well, I would give it a chance. You never know. I mean ... 7 years ago if someone told me the specs of the PS3 I would tell them they are on drugs.

Time sure does fly.

All the real hardware is on there end. All you have is a sub $100 box or a cheap computer. The box does nothing except connect to the internet. I could see Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo setting up a similar service. The only thing I can see people spending money on is a aftermarket controller.

To run new games on a PC you need a rig that costs $1000 plus with a high end video card. With this you can play the same have with a cheap computer with on board video.

I don't see why this wouldn't work. Many of us already get HD channels, so the bandwidth is there.

I'd be more worried about the selection of games. If done this right, I can see this thing pwning MS, Sony, and Nintendo in the near future.

This is THE FUTURE, currently we just lack the infrastructure to make this viable in North America. When we get the infrastructure we need, this will be flying off the hook. It's possible to run this currently with Shaw's Extreme service, the problems I see are that it will cause a network congestion for other users in your network, and the "100GB" bandwidth limit will not be sufficient.

sweet mother of god yes! I don't see how this could lag much more than a regular online game considering the amount of data you have to send already. it's like everyone playing on the same console/LAN but with your screen and controller connected via the internet. in theory you could trick older games into thinking you're on the same system when you're not (think of it, Mario Kart 64 online, GoldenEye 64 online....)

Our internet connections won't keep up! If this actually works (which they haven't shown yet), Shaw will jump on this and ask us to pay premium

to have HD channel and to stream different HD content to every fucking one is a different story. This will work if you can in essence stream HD youtube clips (like real HD ones with at least 720p?) with no buffering no lag and instant load. It needs to reach that kind of speed before this is possible. If anyone can do it now YT can.

The problem is that with the IPv4 technology we are somehow still adhering to means our internet is spread into too many nodes and then re-spreaded into many smaller clusters.....something along the way is not going to hold, be it a switch or a server that you share with your neighbors.

It's totally possible in Japan (oh fuck not again) where they have a fiber optic cable passed into the houses of every single subscriber. I used internet there in my friend's house and holy shit you wonder why so many Japanese have problems leaving their house - it's the world delivered to them at light speed.
