Which Server company do you guys use?

For hosting sites?

I've had good luck with http://www.one.com

It's a little slow but it's $1.45/month - comes out to be about $45 CAD/year
No limit bandwidth
1 GB storage

Any help greatly appreciated - also considering Dreamhost

Preemo 03-26-2009 11:47 AM

I've been using 1and1 for the past 3 years.

+1.

Rev,

I've been using them for several years and once in a while, they have package sales which are pretty cheap. Bandwidth is plentiful and storage is more than what I need it for. I'm also using it to host that website. :)

hostway.com and 10tb.com
Softlayer backbone FTW!

dedicated server solution.

I use 1and1 for the past 3 years too

how come $1.45/month becomes $45 CAD/year?

Razor Ramon HG 03-26-2009 02:49 PM

How's godaddy? I currently have a domain and is in the progress of placing Wordpress on it. It's 4.99 a month though for economy hosting. I picked Windows, some recommend Linux, what's the dif?

Hondaracer 03-26-2009 03:38 PM

ive been using doteasy.com which is a local company

for about $120 a year u get unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage, a bunch of extras, etc.

its kinda pricey i guess but i've had absolutely no problems with them and their hosting is very fast

My mistake - initial cost is $45

Web Space Small - 12 months USD 17.40
Annual domain fee (.com) USD 13.80
Setup fee USD 13.80
________________________
Total USD 45.00

Basically under around $20/ryr on renewals

3GB storage unlimited bandwidth, etc.

N.V.M. 05-14-2009 05:43 PM

i take back what i said about BlueHost. sure, easy to get assistance, but it's the crappy kind.

simsimi1004 01-18-2010 06:56 PM

looking to host personal website as a way to learn coding and then eventually into bigger thing such as a forum/store.
learning x/html/css/java/
is inmotionhosting.com any good?
whats a good recommendation.

Preemo 01-18-2010 06:59 PM

1and1.

I would figure a few of us who have been using 1and1 for a few years would be a good indicator of that. =)

SkinnyPupp 01-18-2010 11:28 PM

I use Rackspace Cloud. Since it's cloud, the pricing works a bit different. It's $100 a month for 10,000 compute cycles. So you actually don't sit on a server (shared or otherwise) but as part of a huge collection of servers. Your site will only use as much as it needs. If it needs to use 3 servers, it will rack up more compute cycles and you pay more for it.

Price went up to $150 this week though, but current subscribers keep their $100 a month price.

We'll be moving Revscene to this in March.

sorry to go off topic, but did someone say pron? please pm me the links ;)
!littledragon i'm talking to you~ :)

SuperSlowSS 01-19-2010 10:05 AM

Man I must be paying the most for a personal server I hardly uses.
$38 usd/month. Everything is limited... except access. haha

oh it is slicehost.com.

ecchiecchi 01-19-2010 10:09 AM

Avoid fatcow! Cheap but shitty slow. =o

J____ 01-19-2010 10:30 AM

im using www.webhostingpad.com
cheap and unlimited everything. Easy setup and cpanels great. No setup fee. I remember looking at bluehost, dreamhost, and all the other cheap alternatives listed here, but i deceided to go with this for a reason that i forgot haha. I think bluehost doesnt have good customer service and webhostingpad's super quick in responding. I think thats why i picked it. Oh and i think bluehost and dream host only had the cheap promotional rate for the first 1 or 2yr period. when you renew, they rate is more. Webhostingpad gave you $1.99 a month if you sign up for 3 yrs, but when you renew, you still get the 1.99 a month rate and not the normal ofr $3 +

It's cheap and it works.
Just need to google yourself the promo code so that the first year will be $20 total.

No setup fee, nada.

freakshow 01-19-2010 02:42 PM
